Gfy Chefs - help with fennel

I have never had fennel other than the seasoning variety. So, I bought a fennel bulb at the supermarket this weekend but now I am not really sure what to do with it. Any good (not too fatty) recipes for a first time fennel taster?

we used to eat it raw as a after dinner thing when i was a kid.

I haven't worked with fennel in yonks, but one of my favorite recipes is the Caramelised onion and fennel tart.

So, mostly people are eating it raw?

Well, I haven't tried it myself, but the description sounds good, and roasting in olive oil and balsamic vinegar is a safe method.

try the food network website. I see some of those chefs using it. It's supposed to taste like black licorice which is why I don't use it. yuck!

Slice it extremely thin and add it to a salad with green apples.

Its great raw, especially fresh from the fridge. Yum.

I grew some last year (it grows great in just a bit of earth and some sun) but wasn't sure what to do with it, either, other than use it in place of dill on some fish.

Fennel soup with some shrimp is nice.
