Now you can use it to pay for porn, its discreet, and you don't need VISA. I just came across it, and havent really looked into it too much, but it looks like a great concept...Why isn't anyone utilizing it???

I'm with you Meta, it is an overdue idea here in the States. Maybe At&t have this coming up with their new M-Life campaign.

I have been getting more junk mail recently from them about text messaging. They have trivia contests and all kinds of BS to try to encourage users to use their text capabilities. If only they would say you can pay for porn through your phone! They would have a ton of users then!

I heard on the david lawrence show a few months ago that there is a company that is bringing this exact technology to the U.S. for mainstream companies, I forgot what it was, but its bound to be here...It has great potential. Not much attention being given to it though for some reason.

The US has a very very very low % of cellphone users compared with Europe & Asia. I've never once met an asian who didn't own a cellphone. Not 1 fucking person.

Maybe this will become more popular in the West in the near future.

This kind of payment systems uses so called 'reverse SMS billing' or 'premium SMS', where end users are charged by their phone bill for using this kind of services. In Europe this kind of billing for adult services is coming up and becomes more popular everyday.

About The States and Canada. Premium SMS isn't technical available yet. Whenever possible we will expand our mobile payment services to The States and Canada.

Revenues are worse, because the telecom operators take too much of the cake. But, try to see it another way.. Our figures shows that a lot of mobile phone users (paying for adult content right now) never will use a CC or dialer to get online adult content. With mobile SMS billing you reach customers you normally not get. In spite of the bad revenues, this could be interesting.

we tried it didnt work, a lotta dutch ppl are afraid they end up getting a premium sms every day taking Euro 1,10 of their prepay card.

And : if you can send or receive a sms, you can also dail a premium phoneline and youre absolutely sure the billing ends when you hang up :)

you can buy coke from vending machines in Sydney via SMS.. Australia has a very high mobile phone enabled %. Not like imode in japan though. If the processing fees were decent I think it's a great additional payment source. not something to focus on to the exclusion of others though.
