They are still looking for new customers though...I get junk mail every month to open a new account with them.

Smart idea if you ask me, they want people to pay off Amex before they pay off their other debts as they know the credit crunch will get worse and worse. Better sacrifice $300 now to collect as much as possible before people can't pay back all their creditors. Good move if you ask me.

that is really strange, so I guess all those companies offering to give you interest free for a year to move all of your credit card balances to them are probably not so eager any more?

It's fun to watch all these financial institutions in panic mode. They have been pissing on many of their customers for years and now they are even pulling rank with those of us that have been good customers paying on time and keeping deposits with them.

How long did they think customers could survive when they make one late payment and their rates shot up to 29% or more. I bet they thought they had a good racket going. Assholes.

I just got my first American Express card a few weeks ago. High balance, they still love some people too lol

I like how for years bankers and wall street have been saying "we need less regulation" "government shouldn't be regulating us" and look what happens when there are lax regulations. Now they are going to the government asking for money.

Given it hurts your credit to close an account and more and more people are finding that out, I would imagine they'd have to pay to get enough people to do it these days.

They know there's a wave of bankruptcies coming soon. Always happens several months after the unemployment rate spikes.

That I think, more than any "liquidity crisis", is why credit card companies started lowering credit lines left and right a few months ago as well.
