42" LCD TV, which one?

Looking at getting an LCD tv for the bedroom. Going with Vizio as the ones in the office look good and have not gone wrong.

Shortlisted it to either of these Vizio's. If the 120Hz worth the extra $200?
Will be watching mostly HD saterlite, no blue ray and regular dvd's.

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...191&pCatg=5883
$997

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...297&pCatg=5883
$797

If it was for a main tv then I would spend the extra $200 however as its for the bedroom am thinking save the extra $200 for the stand and cables..

What do you think.

Um because that's all pretty much they make now a days. Only panasonic is still going to produce plasmas.

Samsung make some great LCDs

wdsguy 02-22-2009 05:21 AM

I have a 42 philips & a samsung - both of which looks pretty good. Also got a 52 sharp.

Sonys are good tvs but way overpriced.

Vizio is not a bad choice for the price but overall it does have more quality issues.

Pretty_Lara 02-22-2009 08:44 AM

I have lcd and plazma pioneer ...Pioneer rules !!!!!!!!

lcd cheap ....but hd plazma still rocks !

John-ACWM 02-22-2009 09:46 AM

Samsung all the way.The extra 200...it's your decision if you want to keep these one for a long time

bloggerz 02-22-2009 09:50 AM

Samsung if you want deep contrast and super crisp edges

okdesign 02-22-2009 09:52 AM

Samsung :thumbsup

cess 02-22-2009 09:53 AM

Samsung LED LCD screens. Whoever says get a plasma has obviously never seen Samsung's new LED-LCD screens. Plasmas don't stand a chance anymore.

I've seen some 42'' Sony Bravia 1080p for $899 here locally. My dad just picked one up.

I need another nice 32''.

We own all Samsung.

Cutty 02-22-2009 10:08 AM

I just bought a 40" sony bravia 1080p 120hz and love it.

I was shopping around those lower priced brands but found that most of them only offered 60hz screen refresh rate. So I figured if I was going to be spending over 1k I might as well go with the best brand in tvs. Which is Sony.

And someone asked why LCD? becuase they have a longer lifespan then plasma screens.

Good luck on your decision! :)

fusionx 02-22-2009 11:24 AM

I have a Samsung 42" LCD, an LG 42" plasma, and I used to have a Vizio 42" LCD.

The Samsung is better by far than either of the other two. Vizio's are cheaper, but the quality of the picture show it..

Machete_ 02-22-2009 11:30 AM

Get the Hitachi Ultrathin 42 they just launched. (you need a tuner/decoder box)

http://www.hitachidigitalmedia.com/p...7 4&proid=648

I have sold some of the 37" this week, and when they call it "ultra thin" its not bullshit

the 37" is only 35mm deep

I've had my 42 Inch Vizio 1080p LCD for 2years now it's running smoothly.. perfect hdtv for the price if your trying to save some $ it comes with a 1yr warranty as well.

As far as 120hz .. read this article

http://ezinearticles.com/?LCD-Flat-S...ney?&id=963392

playing Blueray in 120hz definitely looks better...

Look at this press release from Vizio though:
They are launching 240hz LCD's this Summer with very high contrast ratio's

Doctor Feelgood 02-22-2009 01:21 PM

for something bigger id go with
52" Sharp Aquos Limited Edition

Thanks for the 120mhz article. I think I may just pay the extra $200 even through I won't be playing blue ray in the bedroom (we have media room for that) $1000 for a 120mhz model is a good price. I agree samsung are better however it's not for the primary tv so I think Vizio will be fine..

amandaspost 02-22-2009 03:10 PM

I have a 42'' samsung lcd and love it

Godsmack 02-22-2009 03:19 PM

Panasonic Plasma's rock..

teh ghey 02-22-2009 03:26 PM

i notice in the stores that the Sony tv's seem to have a much better picture than the other brands. I was at the Sony store and the picture's were sick. I wanted to get one right there.

I have a Philips 50inch and Samsung 42inch Plasma. Both tvs are amazing. Specially my Philips for being a 50inch. All my friends love it and watch the soccer games at my place.
