Head down to Jefferson on a weekend night and many times you'll see a car that cost 25% of the rims on the car. :)

Are you familiar with the races that used to take place on French Rd. & Lynch Rd.? Years ago I went down there with some friends and they were drag racing. It was actually very fun to watch, but dangerous because several fights broke out and it was a rowdy crowd. Where do people in Detroit (or Metro) race now? I remember Telegraph was big back in the day, but don't know if they still are.
