I really need to get a decent camera, and I am curious what you guys are using.

*pauses for fletch to continually talk about how he doesnt drink, do drugs or eat meat as if anyone cares*

I guess I should have mentioned, photo!

I keep trying to take a photo of mine but no matter how fast I turn it, I can not seem to capture it.. Do have some great photos of the wall, my feet, and the cup of soda I knocked over.

40d - wish i waited another couple months for the 50d, but im totally happy with its results.

I use the nikon D3. Love it!! I also use Pro Photo strobes. 2 D4 packs and 2 acute 2 pacs with a shitload of heads and modifiers.

Canon 30D works for me.

Canon XSI

4 (possible 5) to 1 Canon over Nikon users so far.

I just have the Rebel XT but then, I'm not shooting anything much more than my family and the odd nature shot here and there.
It's great quality and best of all, rather small in comparison to the big boys. So for just taking it out and about, it's perfect.

i use a nikon d2x and a nikon d200
that should level the field...

i would love to hear if there is any development on dynamic range on any new DSLR's ccd/cmos?
to my knowledge they are all more or less same shit..

Canon 1d and Canon 10d as a backup.

I have a Nikon d60, and am probably going to sell that one in the next few months and step up to the d90. Have a canon powershot that is a nice point and shoot sitting here too, and a Nikon coolpix laying around, and a older fuji point and shoot. Love my d60 so far. :thumbsup

I have a Nikon D50, upgrading to the Nikon D300 or D700 soon.

We shoot with both a Nikon D80 and an older Olympus e10.

thnx for all the replies people. Exactly what I was looking for.

Ihave purchased quite a few cameras in the $200-$400 range and just feel that its time to move up a bit.

I take a lot of photos in the backyard or while gardening and I want them to look better. I also take a lot of city pics and pics of places and Id like to capture more of the view and better quality.

I even take a lot of close up insect shots and have wanted to move into better close up photography, so a real camera is a must. Also battery use is aggravating, I am hoping the better cameras have longer battery life and better technology behind their power.

Ive spent hours and hours and hours chasing dragonflies or butterflies in my garden, only to get a shaky and not clear picture.... we also have a lot of bees and flowers... and I enjoy taking pictures of them too, and need longer lens.

so thanks again for the advice, I am definitely looking into a few of the cameras recommended and wanted to see the Canon vs Nikon play out without making a "compare or vs thread"

Haven't really had a chance to proper test it out though. Bought it a few weeks ago. I'm hoping for good results!

how do you like the d700 ? does it seems to have broader dynamic range?
how about shooting high ISO, supposed to be one of the camera's big advantages..?

right! doesnt have to be pron either... because Im not really buying the camera to shoot porn at all. in fact I know a lot of what Im going to shoot will involve nature and outdoors, but we all enjoy some skin.

part of the reason I got it, was its ability to shoot good in low light, I find the higher you get the more noise is on the pics, just got it so still trying to figure it out, but so far I like it.:thumbsup I am out of country with a shitty connection hard to upload shots.
