Mobile Evangelist Unite! What part of that pie do you want?

I woke up this morning to people bashing my last thread. I simply asked if anyone else is making money in mobile besides us at BustBox. It never ceases to amaze me that some people have this knee jerk reaction to mobile. Baseless statements like ?There is no money in mobile.? are just completely ridiculous. Guys WAKE UP! The mobile market is coming out if its infancy now and is something every one of us should keep an eye on and YES even start figuring out how to market to it.

Someone making an uneducated and ill-informed statement like there is no money in mobile now is like going back 8 years and saying there is no money porn on this new fangled thing called the World Wide. Mobile is here folks and it is here to stay devices have larger screens and faster connections than ever before. The consumption habits are changing and BustBox is living proof that you can make money in mobile in North America Today.

I have been in Adult space for 10 years and the mobile adult space for 6 years. Point blank there has ALWAYS been money in mobile adult content for the people who could get to the customers or wanted to learn how to get to them. IT IS A DIFFERENT MARKET. Surfing habits are different if you spend some time learning about Mobile SEO and Mobile Commerce you can quickly transfer your Affiliate Marketing Knowledge to the Mobile Market Space WITH VERY LITTLE competition.

The last 5 years it has been mobile contend delivery has primarily focused in EU, Pac Asian, and Latin American countries. Quite simply put these countries have typically been far more advanced in the mobile space in terms of network connection speeds and devices. If you couple that with the fact that the mobile phone not the PC is the first chance that most people in those countries have to access sex freely you can see why this has been a booming industry overseas for so long.

It has only been in the last 18 months that we have really started to catch up to the rest of the world in speed and devices. The market is now growing swiftly. According to a new Juniper Research?s report, the global mobile market for adult content grew by around 36% to an estimated $2.2bn in 2008, driven by streamed subscription services and a burgeoning video chat market. The only question left to ask is what part of that pie do you want?

I believe a lot of people were expecting to revive the early internet years with mobile and they've been disapointed. It's not an easy market and you're never one to one with your end user, but it has been a steady source of income for us for years. Some content we shot for less than $2k three years ago has been making us a steady $3-4k a month since. Might not be wonderland, but there is money to be takent there for sure.

Harv, bare with the haters man. When adult internet was forming, how many production companies said "no way i'm gonna put my stuff online... there's no money in the internet."?

Some jumped in quickly, some are still thinking about jumping in... it's all a matter of pace and beliefs. Good luck to you on your pioneering job bro.

Cheers!

Nice Harv.....

Sean 02-19-2009 11:11 AM

the old short code world might be spinning down, but mobile is getting more legit and growing by the day.

theharvman 02-19-2009 11:14 AM

Rex/Bruno You know what I am talking about it has not been Huge in years past money has only been trickling in but in the last 18 months have been booming for us there are a lot of creative minds out there and all I am trying to do is GROW the CATEGORY! 'zackly.

Like I said yesterday: there are always early adopters - and I think people expect a similar scalability as the early net days... and we're not there yet.

Renegade Jeff 02-19-2009 11:22 AM

Amen Harv!

We've been making good $$ in mobile adult for over 6 years, and doing well in the USA for the last 1 1/2 years. Now is really just the beginning of the adult mobile explosion here.

The technology can be daunting, but it's out there. Frankly, even many of the established Web guys who have jumped in so far have not built user-friendly solutions. We will change all of this. Watch Up & Cumming Mobile over the next few months.

I come to this business from a background in mobile rather than Web adult. It is a different animal. Forget the critics, if they really believe there is no money in mobile, that just means more for you and me.

Thanks for pushing this Harv! And btw, great to talk to you and catch up yesterday.

Penthouse Tony 02-19-2009 11:23 AM

Ignoring mobile will soon be as silly as ignoring making your pages SEO friendly.

seeric 02-19-2009 11:26 AM

don't worry about people bashing you. fuck em. i've got a ton of mobile traffic that i've been working on building for a couple years now. difference is, i'm sending my traffic all to myself and keeping all the money. good luck, fuck the haters.

Thank you for backing me up on this! I am banging the drum as loud as I can this is a money maker if you are willing to invest the time and effort it takes to learn how it works. I do not care who you are friend or foe let?s just get busy building the category and we can cut up the pie after its baked!

Don RELISH 02-19-2009 11:36 AM

Glad to see there are people like you pushing mobiles over there across the pond Harv. For the rest, catch up! Mobiles and mobile internet (yep, 2 different things) are recognised as established channels over here in the UK, and the US is not far behind, so the revenue streams can only get bigger. We've been making good money from mobiles for a few years now and can only see it getting better.

When mobile marketing first came out there wasn't enough sites that were mobile compatible and mobile browsers were shit. Even mainstream tried to go down the mobile road and found the same road blocks. But since mobile browsers were improved and since the launch of iphone/itouch the consumers are all jumping on the band wagon.

Consumers are using their mobiles for everything from games, email, surfering the web and buying via mobile. In mainstream I am always asked, 'Can we sell your site to mobile consumers / is your site mobile compatible'?

Remember most mainstream sites can only allow usa traffic. Adult sites are global and like harv said there are some countries that are more advanced in technology and have a shit ton of mobile traffic.

This is def one market that is growing and will be growing for a long time.:2 cents:

TheDoc 02-19-2009 11:57 AM

1% of your traffic is mobile or so.. The people are on an expensive phone, already paying an expensive recurring cost. These same people buy stupid applications, music, etc to put on the phone. IE: They spend the fuck out of money.

But that doesn't change the fact that it's still 1% of the market. While a strong 1% it's still only 1%. Being so, anyone building only for mobile will only have 1% - people cross building the platform so it can be taken off or put it on the phone as well as everything else, are the ones doing well.

Money to be made... Of course... but it's still 99% hype...

LeslieSharp 02-19-2009 12:12 PM

Thanks for the reminder that I want to meet with you about doing some mobile stuff in the near future. Why? Because there is no money in it, he he he!

Love ya!
xoxo

OMG here we go again. What research did you conduct or even read about that convinced you that saying mobile is 1% of the adult market was a accurate statement? How can you profess such utter uneducated nonsense? Look here are the FACTS Feel free to to look this up. Ready? The Global Mobile Market Place was worth 900 Billion in 2008. Mobile Adult Services Accounted for 2.2 Billion up 36% from last year. Which amounts to 24% of the total market share. Do I have your attention now?

fatfoo 02-19-2009 01:11 PM

iPhone 36 0.07%
iPhone 18 0.09%

This is from 1.6 million uniques on a site with mobile videos: iPhone 6,352 0.38%
iPod 3,634 0.22% - PalmOS 617 0.04%

Any questions?

I am not the one that is confused Apple just announced that the iPhone now accounts for 1% of the global mobile market. Adult Mobile content does not revolve around the iPhone though adult content on mobile devices has been around for almost a decade now.

Again The math is simple The Global Mobile Market Place was worth 900 Billion in 2008. Mobile Adult Services Accounted for 2.2 Billion of that which amounts to 24% of the total market share not 1%.

Humm... Zero's get me sometimes, billions is a huge fucking number... But one of us is missing a zero or added an extra one in.

2,200,000,000 / 900,000,000,000 * 100 = 0.24 = Not even 1%

I get those zeros correct?

KillerK 02-19-2009 03:10 PM

You think 1 in 6 have a mobile phone? I doubt it.

That's what I'm say'n the haters don't realize mobile is so 1996 when there was just modems and 386 computers. Now that we have 3G iphone's you see more and more player jumping in just like they did when DSL came out.

Like Kat Williams said

"Let the haters hate, Let them do their job. If you only have 10 people hate'n on you, then you need to figure out how to get to 50 by summer time"

Funny you mention it. I was talking to an affiliate that is doing very well with us and he was telling me he hoped more affiliate programs would go mobile because this is where he gets most of his income.

He even mentioned sarcastically that he wished not as many webmasters were considering Mobile since he wants to continue getting the biggest part of the cake :winkwink:
But more and more webmasters are getting smarter, so are the affiliate programs.

davecummings 02-19-2009 11:42 PM

TheHarvMan knows his field; I predict that he'll soon to recognized as the God of Adult Mobile Porn!
