Is the recession killing the domain industry?

I picked up...

SHOOTOUTVIDEOS.COM
JOBLESSBLOG.COM
FIGHTERVIDEOS.COM

from a deleted/dropped list for reg fee.

People are letting decent domains drop everyday now. I can only think it's the recession.

What about you? Show me your "steals".

so does 181st.net, but look what you did with it :)

XPays 02-18-2009 06:24 PM

great names are always dropping- - the change in the domain tasting rules (icann fee per name) drastically reduced the amount of names tied up. hand registration is back.

PDDW.com does the heavy lifting of finding expiring names for those looking for an all-in-one solution.

I don't think the recession has anything to do with it as much as reality kicking in to find out freepornforfree.net isn't worth the 17,000 your chummy 16 year old friends over at sedo appraised it at 2 years ago....

Erotica.com sells for $850K, FootJob.com for $53K

PORTLAND, Ore. - The recent Internext domain auction in Las Vegas produced three of the year's top-selling domains.

The domain Erotica.com sold for $850,000 just prior to the start of the auction to shut out competition. The domain name had been scheduled for the live auction with a reserve price range falling between $750K and $1M.

Top-selling domain names during or after auction included FootJob.com, which sold for $53,388 in silent auction after the show ended. s e x y l a d i e s . c o m sold in another post-auction bid for $29,420.

That last one there should be a classic for some people... ;)

The reselling market for weaker domains has dried up for sure...but people are still purchasing new domains from registers. I will most likely let over 1,000 expire if I can't find buyers. Starting out being a domainer in adult was a foolish decision...pushed me into being an adult webmaster...and been working so hard I almost ended up in the hospital over the common cold.

Yeah, I'd like to know which brokers he's referring to.

seeandsee 02-19-2009 09:12 AM

probably yes

Tippy 02-19-2009 09:31 AM

All my names are hand regged, sure nothing to die for but considering what some paysites are using/promoting some of them dont look too bad to me. I'm only a little fish, I dont live off my profits from domain sales mind you Ive been able to buy a few toys with my earnings, TV, Laptop, Camera etc...

Its a hobby for me so as long as Im doing what I like to do Im happy with the way things are going...

tranza 02-19-2009 09:55 AM

Just my opinion but... domains are probably as recession-proof as you're gonna get.

TeenCat 02-20-2009 04:19 AM

Yes & No

If your an investor and looking to buy domains and hold on to them, this might be the best time to buy. But if your a person selling domains and looking for cash right now it's not a time to be selling. Right now investors are looking for deals and looking to get something for hardly nothing right now. Looking for someone to buy your assets right now is going to be rough since investors right now with the cash are hanging on to it so the pool of investors looking to take a risk right now is small. I'd say in the next year will be the best time to buy up assets if you have the cash in my opinion:2 cents:. Just depends on how you look at it.

FootJob.com for $53k?

Wonder what I could get for deepthroatjob.com and deepthroatjobs.com ...

LiveDose 02-20-2009 08:31 AM

We haven't picked up any 1 word gems manually but have noticed a lot of good two word domains dropping. Especially in mainstream. All depends on what your target & strategy are.

Nice ones.

slapass 02-20-2009 08:41 AM

It would make sense that they are getting hit too. Everything else is.
