The Search Engine Thread

i just submitted 4 sites to dmoz, and hopefully they will be picked up by the major search engines, but would it be better to go direct to the se's like google and altavista, and submit the sites there? or perhaps get paid express inclusion like altavista have, and is there some good sites where you can submit to thousands of search engines, that actually shows some results?
btw, the site title and description you use when you submit to dmoz, is that the title and description wich will show up on the other search engines?
if you know something worth sharing, please post it here ;)

Search engine optimization is a bit like a cult. People don't like to share their secrets with the uninitiated. SEO is a competition and when you help your competitors, your traffic suffers.

That being said, you might want to check out the following:

optimize as many sites as you can and focus on google.

any submission that states "submit here and get listed in 1000 SE's" is a waste of time. Dont do it. Submit manually to all but again focus on Google.

The site title and description you use when you submit to dmoz will never show up on *dmoz* even assuming that your site is accepted.

The human who reviews your site and makes the decision to accept it will rewrite your title and description to conform to their rules. Almost no one ever actually submits a site with a title and description that conform to dmoz's rules.
