If you're shopping for a digital camera

Figuring a lot of us will be shopping for new digital cams for the holidays for family and friends. . . and with so many choices out there check out this one that recently came out.

I just bought the new Nikon 4300. The image quality on this baby is breathtaking (4 Megapixel chip), espcially for the price $499.00. The really nice thing about this camera though is its versatility. You can go from full auto point and shoot to prosumer level scene selection mode to full manual with pretty much pro-level controls. I had my 7 year old son taking incredibly great pics with only a few minutes of instructions.

Its lightweight and compact and makes a great travel camera. 3X razor sharp and fast zoom lens. The LCD is ultra sharp as well.
If you use the viewfinder instead of the LCD the batteries will run 60 hours, with the LCD its about 90 mins.

The image colors, saturation, tone, etc. were picture perfect. Prints on an Epson inkjet at 1440dpi came out photo lab quality.

This Nikon offers the best price to value and features on the market. It can easily take on the higher priced Canon G3, Sony F717, and the images were on par with every 5 megapixel camera I looked at.

So if you're looking for a bargain stocking stuffer, this camera is an absolute winner.

Extremely interesting. Thanks for the info.

What's it like at skin tones under artificial light?

Just so you know, NEVER buy a Milonta dimage 7
5 megapixel camera. I SHIT YOU NOT, fourfresh energiser batteries last only about 20 minutes and rechargeables only give you about 10 minutes.

I gotta get around to selling that piece of shit sometime before its worth $300. :)

Post a pic please, KRL. I'm interested in seeing what sort of quality cameras in this price range are capable of. Looking to maybe pick one up.

Anyone else got any recommendations. I want a small digital camera to take on holidays, shows and when I do a small casting. Don't want to spend more than $600

I have the Dimage 5 and agree that the onboard batteries don't last long. Of course I bought the external batteries which if charged up, last hours.

OOOH! AAAH! Sweet!

Do you have a rough price on that one?

Evil Chris 11-18-2002 01:41 PM

We bought a Canon Elph 200 awhile back... tiny thing.. gets the job done, but don't think you can use it for anything pro.

That Canon EOS-1Ds looks suh-weet.

KRL 11-18-2002 01:54 PM

Been busy as heck today, but I'll get some pics up soon.

I just picked up the Olympus E-20N...Awesome camera...

If you are used to shooting a 'true' SLR...This one will make you feel right at home. Manual focus and zoom...Not to mention true through the lense focussing...Even has the weight and feel of a film camera...With a 5 megapixel output.

<a href="http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_product_lobbypage.asp?l=1&p=16&bc=3&product=71 4">Here's the camera</a>

I would post a pic, but I have also figured out...buying an awesome camera like this one does not make you a better photographer :)

I'll have it in Vegas if anyone wants to show me how to use it :)

That's a sweet camera. Definately hit me up on ICQ or somethign and I'd love to see in in Vegas.

Hef_2 11-19-2002 12:51 AM

railz...

Sounds like we should hook up for drinks regardless...I mean after the 'Dave' saga and all :)...

Last time I had my Nikon Coolpix in Vegas...walking down the strip the strap grabbed a handrail and the camera was ripped out of my hip case, flung up behind me...and smashed to the ground. Sent it to Nikon for repair, they didn't do a very good job :)

So...I have a Nkon Coolpix 950 for sale...cheap! Some assembly required...HAHA!

Hit me up on icq about hooking up in Vegas...7418062 or email me [email protected]

Damn I'm tired...[in other words...don't expect me to be on icq much longer tonight :glugglug]

Later,
Hef

Nikon Coolpix 4300 Samples Gallery

First shots turned out pretty nice.

4 Megapixels / 3X Optical Zoom / $499 / Great for traveling!

newgrade 11-19-2002 04:33 AM

well had a few kodaks (dc series) and bought a fuiji 4700 2 yrs ago, theyre not cheap, but theyre great, only 2 batteries, small, fast as hell instead of the kodaks i had..., small 128 meg mem card, videocap 30 sec, flash that actually works and can be adjusted so it doesnt blank out the whole scene. and : my gf likes it cause it fits in her handbag hehe... guess im not the only one who dumps all his stuff (cell wallet keys cam) :P

this is 1280x960 medium res, mine goes up to 2400x1800 some go higher these days, but 1280 is good enough to order prints from 15x10 cm

Hi That's cheap! In the Netherlands it is much more expensive :(

I recently bought a Canon ixus 330. And I'm happy with it. SMall, solid, and pretty sharp.SO good enough for me:)

Here is a sample pic, taken 1600*1200 in medium res.

KRL,
Thanks for posting the samples link. It was strange that you brought the camera topic up because I was just beginning my search for one and plan to buy one this week.

Were those taken with natural light and / or with the built in flash?

Did you compare other cameras? What made you choose that one?

Thanks

chodadog 11-19-2002 09:30 AM

KRL, how is it with action shots?
