Obama Takes Weekend Off. Wont Sign Bill Till Tuesday?!?!

I see it needed to be passed RIGHT NOW! Couldnt our lawmakers have read it then voted on it Tuesday? Change we can take a long weekend in.

After pushing Congress for weeks to hurry up and pass the massive $787 billion stimulus bill, President Obama promptly took off for a three-day holiday getaway.

Obama arrived at his home in Chicago on Friday, and treated wife Michelle to a Valentine's Day dinner downtown last night. The couple was spotted leaving upscale Table Fifty-Two, which specializes in Southern cuisine, with the first lady toting what appeared to be a doggie bag.

The president plans to spend the Presidents' Day weekend in the Windy City, and is not expected to sign the bill until Tuesday, when he travels to Denver to discuss his economic plan.

Both the House and Senate passed the bill Friday night.

The push to get the bill through before the holiday weekend was so frantic, members of Congress didn't have a chance to read all 1,071 pages of the document before they could vote.

"In a perfect world it would have been nice to have had more time to process it," said Ilan Kayatsky, a spokesman for Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY).

Meanwhile, Gov. Paterson called yesterday for fiscal restraint with the massive influx of federal aid. His budget office estimated that New York will receive $24.6 billion over the next two years, $4 billion more than first believed

relax. the bill passed friday, the earliest it could of been signed would be monday. the world won't end because you think the magic negro took the weekend off + 1 day, even though bills are not signed on weekends.

NIGGA PLEASE..

Dubya was gone most of his 1st 9 months of his administration first term out at 'the ranch'. Including almost ALL of August before 9-11. Plus it's Congress bickering over their earmarks. Not the prez. holding this shit up.

Give the man a break.

So you agree he lied. And there was no rush to get the bill passed. That lawmakers and the American people could have read it over the weekend and voted for it on Tuesday and signed on Wed?

Yup Bush did it to, so its ok for Obama. Change we can not really see! :1orglaugh

:2 cents: I read that Bush was on vacation a total of two years out of the eight years in office, just wish I could find the source:disgust

Im not living in fear or paranoia. Im just stating facts. Obama lied and said they needed to pass the bill fast. So fast that no one could read it. Obama promises transparency and this is what we get.

He could have said he was not going to sign the bill till Tuesday and for the law makers to take their time, read the bill and vote on it Tuesday. That would have been what a leader would have done. What he did is what a dishonest crock would do. No better than Bush.

Seriuosly...when a president is "off" or "on vacation" they aren't exactly sitting on a beach drinking pina coladas and reading Tom Clancy. It usually means nothing more than they're not sleeping at the White House. It's not exactly a job you can just walk away from and say "fuck it. let someone else deal with the bullshit this week."

i'm not gonna argue with you.
it's clear from your threads here that you have an anti-obama agenda and are unable to see things from an unbiased perspective nor able to have a positive outlook.

good luck to you.

So give me some positive spins that come from his latest actions? He appoints three crocks to his cabinet, pushes through the biggest spending bill in history saying theres not enough time to read it, then takes 3 days "off" before signing it. His actions are speaking for themselves.

They can't....otherwise they wouldn't be able to have it both ways.

They hate the guy for the stimulus package....

Then they hate the guy for taking too long to sign it and enact it....

1. i don't necessarily disagree with you- the government in it's entirety is a cluster fuck. i don't believe that it is helpful to point fingers at the new president, esp. since he's been in office a mere 3 weeks. moreover, he has shown an ability to move quickly, appointing cabinet members, etc. did he make mistakes? sure. did he know some would have tax issues? doubtful. does that make them *crocks*? no.

i also don't think it's fair to ask "give me some positive spins that come from his latest actions?" when he's yet to be in office 1 month but it's clear his passing the stimulus bill was a huge success, clinton didn't have near that sort of accomplishment until his second term. no other president has accomplished such a passage ever (regardless of if it will work or not)

other accomplishments in the 1st few weeks of the presidency-
signing an expansion of children's health insurance. an employment non-discrimination bill. rolling back Bush administration policies on detention of suspected terrorists, labor policies and fuel efficiency.

I think we must point fingers or we will end up with another Bush. Bush got a free ride for way to long. I say no more free rides, no more honeymoons, no more benefit of the doubt.

This was the biggest spending bill in history and needed to be treated with much more respect than Obama, the dems and the rep gave it. It us unfair to the American people.

i agree that it is important to watch the government, ask questions, participate, and try to keep our elected officials accountable.

TheDoc 02-15-2009 11:27 AM

What did he lie about?

He said he wouldn't sign any bills without a 48-72 hour cool off period or whatever, so the American people can look at it. He didn't say he wouldn't sign the bills, he just said he would give the people time to look at it. Well.. Go look.

I'm pretty sure I don't recall him saying he change shit based off what we think, just listen to us. I listen to people all day, don't mean I give a shit what they say.

I'm kind of confused how he lied? It sounds more like people heard more than what he said.

But he'll also have Paulson (Bush) to blame. Kinda like FDR can always blame Hoover for getting the ball rolling on the interventionist policies that screwed the economy even more. :(:helpme

Anyone that thinks Bush caused all of our issues is clueless ....

Did the Ex President cause people to take out idiotic loans and make irresponsible decisions? Did President Bush start the lax mortgage lending practices ? Did President Bush cause the Auto industry to make stupid decisions ? The policies of past presidents and bad personal and business decisions caught up to us and caused us more issues now than anything Bush ever did ! It is not or even remotely close to being one mans fault !

It was deregulation that caused this mess, not people not paying their mortgages. credit swaps it was all run like a big fucking casino. The right encouraged deregulation. The auto industry is failing because the financial industry arent opening credit. Nissan is laying off 20 thousand workers.

Yes .... you're right .... deregulation is what caused anyone to be able to get mortgages .... who in turn couldn't pay them because they never should have received them in the first place ... just depends upon how you look at it I suppose ......

Credit may be a part of it for the auto industry .... but there's plenty of mistakes that they made that also caused them to fail .... you could right a novel on the number of bad decisions the auto industry has made
