I hate buying tvs and audio systems.

Finally broke down today and upgrade the tv in my living room (that I rarely watch). I've had my eye on a new model Samsung 52" LCD for about 6 months now. Kept talking myself out of it.

Several of the Magnolia stores in my area are closing by the end of the month. Went in today and came out with the Samsung TV, a Samsung Blu-Ray player, a Niro home theater system, and even a stand for it all. Paid about 60% of what it would have sold for this time last week.

Guess I have to watch movies in my living room again.

My friend has a 52 inch samsung also. It's fucking bad ass for videogames and movies. :)

I never watch the tv in the living room. I have a 12 year old 52 inch Mitsubishi rear projection tv. So old it doesn't even have component inputs. If I watch tv it's mostly in my bedroom on a 42 Panasonic LCD I got a couple of years ago.

Now everyone in the house is gonna be sitting in my living room to watch their movies and such.

Get a TV with Digital input, set up a PC next to it with a WIFI and hook the net up to the TV! Where you been? Watching a Non connected TV is just TV girl!

Sweet. I got the Samsung 52 inch 650 series.

I didn't want to mess with mounting speakers on the walls and cables everywhere so I want with a soundbar type system from Niro Nakamichi http://us.niro1.com/product4a.php
Listened to some demo scenes they had set up and with the way my living room is arranged it should work just as good as having rear speakers also.

Nakamichi has some hands down amazing systems... Spent a lot of time around audiophile equipment in cars and home audio setups, their designs always blew me away. Very good call.

Sam's Club has a special right now... 52 in. and 32 inch for $1800. That's a sweet deal. I paid $1800 originally for my 37 inch... of course that was also three years ago.

TVs today are like computers were five years ago.

I hate shopping for electronics too. I had Jimmy3Way pick and choose and I just went out and bought it. Thank God for people who know electronics on GFY a lot better than me. Couldn't be happier :)

LOL - you're not even close to old school. I only watch sports on HD, everything else I watch on the regular channels (because I usually don't even remember that the HD channels are there lol) - and I don't even notice the difference. (And I won't have a phone in my office that isn't connected to the wall with a cord, either :) )

(Oh - and I still have a cassette player in my car LOL)

Really? 60% off? I've been dragging my feet to get a Blu-Ray. Think I might just stick my head in there for the Presidents day sale. :thumbsup

I got a $300 Samsung BluRay for $180.. of course since they are closing all of the stand-alone Magnolia stores except for the Seattle Design center and the Bellevue store, they are pushing those stores existing stock and floor models out the door.

I was in the SouthCenter store today and they were selling things of the wall and from the back like there was no tomorrow. The Magnolia's inside of BestBuys won't be having the same deals, btw.

You did really well with your choices Beth :thumbsup

I LOVE buying A/V Gear and would consider myself an expert.

That TV is very good all around. I got one for my parents. Did you get the 1500 or the 2500 bluRay?

Either is a very good unit. The 1500 is the best model out for the money right now. Be sure to connect it to the net and get the latest firmware.

I am not as familiar with the Nero system, but if it is affiliated with Nakamichi then I imagine it is high quality.

Of course your new TV is way too small for me :winkwink: Mine is 4 times bigger. But yet I am a little crazy as you know :)

I bet you had to pay someone to come take your old tv outta there!

The BluRay is the 1500. I'll ask the install guys about upgrading the firmware. I have a wired connection in the living room.

Niro as actually the son of the original Nakamichi. He started his own company in 2001. Like I mentioned I didn't want all the wires and mounting stuff on the walls etc for a typical multispeaker home theater system. Niro's speaker bar is supposedly one of the only ones with right/left/center/twitters all in one bar. The receiver uses phase logic to offset timing of sounds through the various speakers to give the surround sound effect. In the store, they played a few scenes from movies that show off the set up. It was funny hearing cannonballs sound like they were coming from behind me and moving right to left before exploding and all from something 12 feet in front of me.

I have a Logitech Harmony remote and went in panic mode this morning looking for the CD for setting up the new stuff on it. Then realized that the software is on my PC (DUH).
