advice about tour for amateur site
Okay, I'm getting ready to go live in about a month with this fucking monster that has eaten my brain for the last 6 months or so. I want some input from you experienced webmasters, please, on the best-converting kind of tour set-up for an amateur site.
It's niche -- BBW fetish, panties/pantyhose/smoking/feet, etc -- and the emphasis is on how much interaction and contact with me (the main model) the surfers will get. So it's set up more like a personal site than a big paysite, but keeping the most important stuff at the top of the page in front of the surfers face, like the join andsample content links, etc. What I need advice on is how to get them (the hypothetical BBW surfer who likes kink) through to the join page. Up top near the logo is are two links -- "Welcome, Guests! Join Now!" and "Already a Member? Log In" The rest of it above the fold is set up like a personal site, so the surfer can click around via the navigation links, with the sample content at the top of the menu right below "Become a Member". It's three columns, with the left column the menu, the center column for text and some images, right column for teaser images, one labeled "pic of the week" etc. Above the text is a banner with several thumb-like images ad animated text over it saying Click Here -- Free Tour. Does it make sense for me to link that to a full-fledged, lead-em-by-the-hand tour, like most sites have? Or am I wasting my time doing that on top of the sample content I have throughout the site? (Remember, it's set up like a fully-operational personal-type site, except the content I'm showing them is just enough to tease) Each sample content page has targeted text about how much better/more/etc stuff they get with a membership, and a call to action that leads them to the join page. I want to cover all my bases, appeal to surfers who are used to a conventional tour, and those who prefer to look at the content in the order they want, and reinforce the idea that it's a very personalized interactive thing with lots of model participation. Am I on the right track? |
Don't listen to overpriced so called "designers",
fuck em, save yourself money and troubles and go with amateur site design which been there since 1996 http://amateursweb.com simple, effective greta conversions. I know the previuos original owner who now retired from the net |

You should talk to Zille from the CyberDyke network... http://www.cyber-dyke.net ... Lots of fetish sites, including some of the ones you are going for. Plus, Zille's a great girl, like a sexy lesbian big sister to me.

Listen to Serge !
My only suggestion would be to read amateur webmaster boards. |

Don't set it up anything like a typical paysite. Do everything you can to keep it feeling like a personal homepage.
Avoid using "tour" "free tour" "next". Tease the hel out of the surfer but don't hit them over the head to get them to join. All you really need is a "join" link in the nav bar and a join link at teh bottom of each sample page, but get creative with the text on that one. Keep your free area updated at least weekly - give them thumbnails of all your new content for the week, or maybe a picture or video clip of the week. |
