When is the last time you went to the library?

Before the internet I used to be hooked on going to libraries in my early teen years to satisfy my urge for information overload. Then I found the joy of a dial up modem and BBS systems and then my visits to the library became less and less frequent. Then it came down to nearly only going when I needed to go to a university library to research for a paper.

Recently, I started going back and actually taking out books and found out that or local library is actually really busy most days. It is actually a pretty nice chill out zone for the time I am in there getting a book.

When is the last time you went to the library and took out a book?

Sometimes I just feel like I need to get away from the computer, so I go for a walk or to the library. They have a decent selection of magazines. I also check out a few books or DVDs occasionally. Lots of old people go there.

I am buying books to read, 1-2 books a week.

couple of years ago when I was in the middle of moving and my internet was not turned on in my new place. So I went to the library to use the internet.

Broda 02-11-2009 06:00 AM

Once a week, I reckon. I pre-order the books online and then go pick them up when I get confirmation that they're in.

Vicious_B 02-11-2009 06:28 AM

I used to go all the time until I moved and it wasn't close by anymore. I love to read and I also read really fast so I go through 3 or 4 books a week. I need to start going again regardless of it being out of the way, books are an expensive habit for me.

Yup..my thoughts too. Especially when I am just curious about an author I haven't read before it is a good way to get a taster without paying.

University

candyflip 02-11-2009 07:46 AM

Last week. I have a little one now and I can't see spending $20 on a 10 page children's book.

Got myself a new Library Card.

tony286 02-11-2009 08:58 AM

I should start going again all the money I spend on books I would save a bunch.

Miss Munki 02-11-2009 09:02 AM

We have a beautiful library in my community, it's all artsy and cool. I should go there more often, haven't been there in a few years.

Scott McD 02-11-2009 09:07 AM

Haven't been in years. Probably won't be in one for years to come either.

No need for it really, i find out everything i need to right here, plus i was never one for reading books anyway...

Broo 02-11-2009 09:20 AM

born2blog 02-11-2009 10:24 AM

last time was about 5 years ago or so

Honez 02-11-2009 10:29 AM

Wow. 1990 something and then I discovered Borders book stores with coffee shops inside. I am not even sure where our closest library is these days. I may have to check into that.

WebairGerard 02-11-2009 10:34 AM

I go quite often as it's a nice walk from home and always love having a few books to read. also get dvds or just hang a bit and unwind.

Brad 02-11-2009 11:09 AM

I buy most of my books or borrow them from friends. I go through about one or two a month usually sometimes more but recently I have been off the reading train a bit.

I'm with him. I would go to the university library out of necessity, but for personal reading (both fiction and non-fiction) I go to the bookstore and drop 20 or 30 bucks. Speaking of books, I'm reading the new Horus Heresy novel from the Black Library, Mechanicum. It's fucking twisted:upsidedow

Vicious_B 02-11-2009 11:27 AM

Im at the point where if I go into the bookstore I end up spending $100 easy and still walk out wanting to buy more. Wouldn't be that big of a deal if I didn't read all of what I bought in 5 6 days.
I really need to start going back to my local library again. I am also trying to find a local paperback trader to turn in some of my other books.
