How important are your work breaks and what do you do during them?

I am pretty serious about breaks. I no longer take lunch at the computer anymore (unless I REALLY have to - rare). I also take time out for a relaxation break where I will have tea and just clear my mind. I am pretty anal about the tea break and it is almost ritualistic. From how I brew it all, to serving it. Then I find something relaxing or not work/tv related and do it while having my tea. Recently I was tinkering with miniature waterfalls. Lately it has been plotting out this springs garden and getting seed orders ready.

I take breaks by doing more work.

Spunky 02-10-2009 07:05 PM

Go outside and have a smoke

NaughtyRob 02-10-2009 07:09 PM

Play Xbox 360 or spend time with the kids.

GrouchyAdmin 02-10-2009 07:12 PM

I come here to get even more pissed off.

ExLust 02-10-2009 08:01 PM

Really relaxes my mind when I have my coffee break.

i absolutely LOVE what I do, every bit of it, so to me work is a break from the real world

Raym 02-10-2009 08:18 PM

It is a 2 mile drive to Starbucks. Twice a day, just to keep my head clear.

shermo 02-10-2009 08:31 PM

I just get up every hour to walk around for about a minute..stretch out. I eat 6 times a day, so occasionally I'll take a 5-10'er to prep food and I'll eat at my desk while surfing the boards.

Good for clearing head and refocusing...

I don't keep a regular schedule with a start and end time and breaks and all that.

I just work off and on from the time I get up until bed. Might be in 30 minute spurts or I might work for 24 hours straight (my record is 60 hours straight believe it or not... can anyone top that?).

I TRY to take my breaks while rendering is going on, it normally gives me a few hours at a time to just unwind and shit.

During the winter months I don't worry too much, I HATE the fucking cold with a passion, summertime I normally load up the computers, queue them up and go to the lake to unwind.

you MUSt take breaks and you MUSt get away from computer.

Ive been working at a desk for way over 10 years and I learned long ago, get out for 5 mins, get away, go throw some darts, or play a video game, but you HAVE to force yourself to leave your desk and get some air.

work will always be here when you get back.

my wife and I both work from home, and as you mention, are already gearing up the garden... i just go in my backyard and start working on some yard stuff or landscaping and it ges me away.,

on the weekends I do my own yard work and it definitely gets you away from desk... feels great.

I work 45 minutes and take 15 minutes breaks, then I take one big break, go out and walk at least 45 minutes to 1 hour, Sunday I don't work at all

Sosa 02-11-2009 07:41 AM

I'll go outside and play with the dog or go out and run errands. Gets me away from the computer for a little bit atleast.

I spend some time with my baby girl. I read her a book or play with her a few times every day.

John-ACWM 02-11-2009 10:11 AM

Nice rituals,keep you fit

pornguy 02-11-2009 10:14 AM

My lunch break is 40 min where I eat and catch a little of a movie. Then back to work. when I need a drink, I get a drink.

Rochard 02-11-2009 10:16 AM

I work from home so it's like whatever. I'll go eat lunch, but I don't dilly dally. I'd rather be back up at my computer working.

RRRED 02-11-2009 10:19 AM

nap/meditate... constantly. Pure silence with the machine off. Just for a little bit at a time several times a day.

fatfoo 02-11-2009 10:22 AM

I believe having a 1-hour sleep break in the middle of your day will increase productivity. I think that's what Abraham Lincoln did, or some president.

M0nk 02-11-2009 10:45 AM

breaks are pretty important for me, i usually go out with some friends, or just lay back to relax and maybe smoke some weed and do some music.
