I'm paying $400 to jazz up a search page. Is that reasonable?

I have a search page on my dating site but its kind of sucky and my users hate it.

A programmer is going to charge me $200 to add a range of heights and weights, so you can search for people between 5'6 to 6'1 for example
and people between 150 to 200 pounds just say

and he's charging me another $200 to add a keyword search, so you can search for keywords in profiles. Like you can search for Asian or reading or roller blading, and anyone who has that anywhere in their profile will come up.

is that reasonable, or high?

yes, they are the makers of the software.
I kind of feel search pages for a dating site should already have this. but my customers want it so im over a barrel

Yes, a good programmer isn't cheap, if you want it done right, the first time, and quickly, you pay for it.

That's the thing with a lot of people, they expect full cms' that make them breakfast to be done in 3 days, for $150. Sure you may get an indian who will do that for you, but it will fall to pieces and burn your toast.

You get what you pay for.

if the stuff is already in the db, and it's just a matter of adding 3 search options on the search page, then it sounds a bit high... :2 cents:
