California must cut the number of inmates in its prison system by up to 40 percent, judges have ruled.

"Overcrowding is the primary cause of the unconstitutional conditions that have been found to exist in the California prisons," the court concluded.

This ruling could be a good thing...

subc 02-10-2009 04:16 PM

this is an outrage.. a prision was my next step once unemployment reached my doorstep.

tical 02-10-2009 04:31 PM

i think it costs the state around 2-3k per month for each inmate.... they'll save some nice $

it will for sure be non violent drug offenders

DaddyHalbucks 02-10-2009 04:35 PM

People are already fleeing California in droves, because of the illegal aliens.

_Richard_ 02-10-2009 04:37 PM

You most people in ther on drug charges are in there on OTHER charges. If someone gets high on pot and robs my house even if I think pot should be legal I still want the fucker in jail for robbing my house. Mnay are in ther for DEALING. Sorry HUGE difference between a occasional user and a dealer.

the answer is more prisons. You'll created jobs building the prison and having to staff them. that's great for the economy. Non violent offenders need to be in seperate prison than violent prisoners. Lifers and long term inmates need to be held in the same area as death row inmates and away from inmates that will be getting out soon.

well if you area has 1000 criminals and your jail only holds 500 then yes you need more jailspace. Simple math really.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 02-10-2009 05:18 PM

bullets are cheaper than room and board. line em up in the desert and get it done...

why should taxpayers pay to imprison murderers and rapists, when there is a cheap efficient method for dealing with these people?

Spunky 02-10-2009 05:18 PM

yeha how about releasing people who are not a danger to the public....

Dirty F 02-10-2009 05:30 PM

So it's better if those criminals are a danger to society than violating the rights of a person who committed crimes?

What about investing in education, prevention or social reinsertion ?

Those maths aren't as simple as you think they might be.

" Low risk " would mean not being a danger to others but that's not the only reason someone is put in prison.

You commit a crime and get convicted you are sentenced to incarceration. You lose certain rights like your freedom until your debt to society has been paid.

Seems to me the ONLY justification for keeping someone in jail is if they are a danger to someone else. :2 cents:

They are fuckign illegals. They shouldn't have any rights.

notoldschool 02-10-2009 07:19 PM

Drugs are not a criminal offense. It is a health issue that needs to be treated by docters. Pot should be legal.

billyb 02-10-2009 07:35 PM

We should release all of these criminals to Mexico, I call this a fair exchange:1orglaugh.
