Ad serving script that can handle 1.3 billion impressions a month?

Having some issues setting up an ad server, are there any fairly robust ou to fthe box scripts that can handle 1.5 billion impressions a month being on it's own server? Or is custom the only way to go?

OpenX is nice but I'm not sure if it can handle billions of impressions.

I'll ask him and send the this thread link to him by email.
He does more whitelabel tech stuff for huge non-adult projects too.

openx can just redo your server layout to either a round robin multi server system, or split off your mysql and ad serving and then adjust to fit

mpahlca 02-04-2009 01:55 PM

as a frame of reference i do over 3 billion ad impressions this way.

hmm, well re-doing the setup of all the servers to add in banner software isn't an option, but seems crazy that 1 dedicated quad core loaded ad-server can't handle it alone0.

We have an ad server script in the works called smart-spots..
Not 100% sure it can do 1.5 billion but it should.. it's ready enough to use we are still tweaking here and there..I welcome you to install it and try for free..

the big problem is mysql load, thats what kills you on openx and any ad server as each impression is typically a mysql query so the more restricitions IE geo target other things the more the server load is. So for me i base my server layout and adaptations on that theory.

i think openx scales with slave servers and load balancing and all that good stuff. Go talk to their tech guys I'm sure you'll find a configuration spelled out and load tested.

Just got the server specs, openx was on it's own server with a 2.5GHz Xeon quad core (rebranded Core 2 Quad) with 4GB of RAM and a 250GB SATA hard drive.

bumperz bumperz

tigermtb 02-06-2009 11:24 AM

Our system handles more than that; but not doing licensing of the script right now.

we push close to that using openx but we use a seperate server for the mysql to ballance it. Try to run it all on one and thats death :)

tiger 11-01-2009 01:42 PM

Open X can handle it just fine but you need the server(s) setup correctly.

GTS Mark 11-01-2009 03:06 PM

OpenX will do it no problemo

Phoenix 11-01-2009 03:08 PM

i want that many impressions :)

sandman! 11-01-2009 04:46 PM

not much of a server to run that many impressions on.

yeah, that was just the separate openx server and it didn't last 5 minutes under 1+million uniques. Ditched the whole deal and just stuck with custom script that was very simple.

kmanrox 11-03-2009 03:00 PM

yeah scratch openx off that list for sure... it slams a server

fatfoo 11-03-2009 04:30 PM

1.3 billion impressions a month - wow, that's a lot of impressions.

BradM 11-03-2009 04:32 PM

You'll melt a server using opensource software.

Atominder 11-03-2009 04:41 PM

openx can do that, isohunt among others uses it
