Biggest n00b mistake?
2 years ago when i first got my own server (raq3, 128 mb ram) and just opened my 1st paysite i submitted one of my free paysite pages (16 thumbs and a join - members - tour button) to the Hun.
I didnt know shit about the Hun and how much traffic he got. It was the only tgp i submitted to and he accepted my page right away. Week later he listed me, after 5k hits my server got slow, after 10k hit it started to melt down. So without thinking i was doing anything wrong, just saving my ass, i quickly uploaded the pics to a Geocities account and hotlinked them from my page. Still the server was about to give up. Then i deceided to upload the full page to a geocities account and redirect it to there. Ofcourse 10 mins later i got a nice mail from Hun saying i was blacklisted...i was like wtf? What did i do wrong??? I HONESTLY had no clue hotlinking and redirecting were a bad thing. I mailed the guy back and said sorry. i didnt mean to screw up things and explained the whole thing and he took me off the blacklist right away. This was prolly my biggest noob mistake... Anyone else? |
My biggest noob mistake was murdering my wife when she asked to use the computer. Thiking back, i probably could have been a little more diplomatic. Live and learn

Using a nic like Amputate Your Cock..

i can't really think of much. the lamest shit was years ago 96/97 when i kept hopping around from host to host cause they always ended up fucking my shit up. it was crazy. i went through a fucking dozen hosts in 24 months.
i remember thinking that 'a good host' was a contradiction in terms. crazy shit :glugglug |

no. things we're very different back then. bw was expensive. very expensive lol

I think my biggest noob mistake was to take 2 weeks vacation when the money started to really come in. I figured I had built a machine that took care of itself and got lazy. I came back from vacation to find I would have to start all the work all over again to get back to the same level.
That and not making backups of everything I did. Good lessons learned for me. |

In 96/97 I had to pay about $3-$4 per hour (ISP + phone bill) to have access to the internet with a 28.8k modem.

The most I paid was $10 overage with Blue Gravity I believe. Crazy days, Hun listings were easy to get for free back then too. |

my biggest mistake in webmastering was not keeping up with my own domains and loosing some very good onee:( Very costly mistake.
|
Starting a free host on a not so established host back in 1998 with very limited tech support... oh and then there were the 1998 bandwidth prices :(
|
This post also reminds me of my first hun listing, I had a account on a virtual server from Verio with a whole 10gigs per month transfer allowance. It was good enough for my 1 AVS site, but I looked into other ways to make money and learned about TGP and submitted to everyone I found on a list somewhere, I think the hun was the only place I got accepted. Anyway I was using a perclick sponsor on a movie gallery and thought I was doing something with my $30 income that day, until I got the $280 bandwidth bill a week later:glugglug

Biggest mistake was retiring in 97, 98, 99, and again in 2000. It's hard to build the traffic back up.
