Anyone owns a horse???

My aunt owns a ranch in Quebec about 2 hours from Montreal and I am thinking of buying a horse as I love to ride.

The have man acres to go riding and they also do rodeos.

Any GFY'ers who are horse lovers?

We had a horse.
It was a lot like owning a boat. Except it ate a whole lot and was evil.
Also was a lot harder to sell than a boat.

Pretty sure they are best rented - much like boats.

YESSSS!! I haven't rode for years but recently have seriously considered getting back into it.. I rode English hunter/jumper for prob 6-7 years.. I was in such good shape! I rode mostly quarterhorse/thoroughbreds and I always told myself if I had the time and money I would buy myself a horse.. CONGRATS!!:)

would you be going there every day to take care of it, or would they be doing that for you and charging you? maybe it is better just to borrow one of their horses if you just want to go out for an occasional ride

I think it is like a dog, if you buy a dog, either you are there as its owner and friend for life, or you pay someone to take care of your dog for you and then who does the dog really think is his owner?

I have a horse farm. My wife breeds horses for hunter/jumper and coaches.

Just dropped $100k last year putting up a new hay storage structure, put in a sand ring for riding, landscaping and fencing.

My aunt runs the stable and I would buy a young one so it will have to be with his mom... I am in Montreal so 2 hour drive away.

Since it is family who will taker care of it I don't think it's a big deal

I always think of how a pet is a life long commitment, so I'm always careful about such things. sounds like its in a good situation

Used to have retired barrel racer when I was younger. The little mare would cut so fast around fence posts she'd damned near take your leg off. I always found riding relaxing. Be it motorcycle or horse.
