The older I become the more I realize

...that I do not know anything. I seem to recall from my college days that there was a phillosopher of old that came to the same conclusion and decided not to speak for the remainder of his life. Is my recollection correct and if so what was the phlisophers name?

d-null 02-01-2009 01:27 AM

not sure, but I do know that I know a hell of a lot more now than I knew in my college days :2 cents:

theking 02-01-2009 01:47 AM

A google search did not help me learn the name of the Philosopher...but maybe because my recollection is not correct. Anyone?

The more you know, the less you understand - Tao Le Ching
The more you learn, the more you realize how little you know… - Socrates

Sid70 02-01-2009 02:28 AM

okay, so can you reveal us how old you are ?

Libertine 02-01-2009 02:28 AM

The more time you spend on GFY, the more you realize that theking is indeed Pathfinder.

dig420 02-01-2009 02:32 AM

I realized that you didn't know anything a long, long time ago... somebody taught you three insults when you were about eleven and you've stuck with them ever since.

quiet 02-01-2009 02:34 AM

Perhaps you are thinking of Meher Baba - born in 1894, in 1925, after ending a period of seclusion, Meher Baba stopped speaking and remained silent until he dropped his physical form in January 1969.

Initially, he used writing to communicate. In 1927, he stopped writing and relied solely on an alphabet board, pointing to letters on the board. He stopped using the alphabet board in 1954, using only hand gestures as signs to communicate.

"The older I become the more I realize..."

...how much i did NOT appreciate good music. I hear it, but i didn't HEAR it. Big difference.

I'm always amazed when i hear a good song, i hear/feel/discover things i didn't hear before...even though i've heard it millions of times growing up.

Towards the end of his life, the Kanchi seer was sad to see hypocrisy as the bane of contemporary life.

He expressed his disappointment that those who came to see him were not prepared to follow what he said. He later stopped talking and became the Dakshinamurthy, who communicated with his disciples in silence.

The older I become, the more I...

want to go back in time and relive my younger days, knowing what I know now.

It's 2009 already, why hasn't anyone invented time travel yet? Christ, a guy could grow old waiting.

Adultnet 02-01-2009 08:42 AM

This is way of life you actually do not know anything.
you have some topics you are good at but you never can know everything.

Hopefully survival of the species will weed out the most stupid...but sadly I'm not sure that is going to be the case.

who chooses who is stupid and who is smart?

a college man could call another man who works on his car motor all day stupid because he has no book smarts.

while another man could find that man genius because he is able to do anything with a motor.

who chooses what is intelligence?

my view of intelligence is being understanding and compassionate. if you can be understanding and compassionate for all types of people race/culture/rich/poor you will find yourself much more intelligent because you may be surprised some of these "stupid" people even have something to offer.

i find you stupid for the fact you want to weed out people. i did not know you are God, did you maybe think the same people who you think are stupid maybe also find you the same because you sit on an adult webmaster board when there is an entire world out there?

are we really that smart if we have millions in our bank when we just sit around and spend the majority of our lives working? i think not.

Brings a quote from Socrates to mind, 'all I know is that I know nothing'.

My father was killed in a car wreck about 40 years ago so the answer is...no.
