iPod experts: what am I doing wrong?

When playing music and I go to shuffle mode it just keeps playing the same song over and over. If I take it off shuffle then it plays the songs in order but I don't want an hour of beach boys followed by an hour of the beatles, followed by an hour of David Peel.

What am I missing here?

If it's an ITouch/Iphone are you hitting songs then shuffle? Make sure you're in the upper most songs folder... before clicking shuffle.

seeric 01-30-2009 12:34 PM

chances are you are on REPEAT instead of shuffle.

used to happen to me all the time at the gym.

Well, that is what I thought too [since the songs keep repeating], however, while I see SHUFFLE as an option, I do not see REPEAT as an option. I seem to recall that there is a repeat option if I play the songs when attached to my laptop but I see no such option on the touch standalone.

Any idea where I would find that?

tony286 01-30-2009 02:14 PM

the ipod is like the hi fi but smaller :)

Brad 01-30-2009 02:17 PM

go to the selection you want to shuffle and play the first song, then click the album art (aka the middle of the screen) and click the two arrows that cross each other that looks like an x (it's on the right side).

No sir. You've not even hear the tip of the iceberg that is my collection. Besides, hearing it and having it are two different things.

In all seriousness, it sounds like you are doing the right things. Perhaps there is a problem with your iPod?

seeandsee 01-30-2009 02:28 PM

you need new ipod :)

also, if you are in any menu with songs you can just push shuffle which will be right at the top of the list.

i've had the same issue with my iphone. if you are not in the top level where all the songs are i think it defaults to repeat. i think i saw someone suggest that as well. looking at my phone now, when you start playing a song, tap the screen and the progress bar comes up. to the left you see the repeat infinity circle, to the right of the genius bar you should see the shuffle icon, that should be blue. if not, touch that.

What he said.
Make sure the inifinity circle isn't blue or blue with a 2.. it should be white. Infinity circle pops up when you touch the name of the song up at the top of the screen..

And when you shuffle it.. make sure you are in the outer most song folder... tap "songs" on the bottle.. then "Shuffle All" up top....

If that doesn't work, I have no idea.

You can create playlists on itunes on your computer, then transfer those to your ipod. So when you in a mood for one kind of music, play that type of playlist. Works well :)

baddog 01-30-2009 04:05 PM

Think I found the problem . . . that infinity circle was blue. Never knew what it was.

I have to say this about Apple. Their docs that come with equipment [like iPod] totally suck. There was nothing that came with it that mentioned any of these icons.

TyroneGoldberg 01-31-2009 11:09 AM

nesxt time you have a problem with your iPod, talk to someone in your family under the age of 18. i'm not joking.

i didnt't know how to text using my iPod, I had to google it, thought i was a genius. was talking to my son about it and he already knew how to do it

No one in my family is under 18. I did ask my son but his response was, "I have only seen them in their box."

About that.....

There is this thing call the "Interweb". Apple is very much an "Interweb" company and there are easy to find video tutorials for their products. On the "Interweb" you will also find these handy websites called "Search Engines." These "Search Engines" can be used to find pretty much anything you want.

I know you're an older gentleman and as such you are probably not very familiar with these sort of things but if you try going to google.com (one of those new fangled "Search Engine" things), you may be able to find some of those videos from Apple that will show you WTF you are doing. :2 cents:

So, do you have to Google the functions of your camera or did they provide documentation with it to at least get you started?

I'm younger than you so by default, I already know WTF I am doing. :winkwink:

I've picked up the manual to my camera once. Only did that because somehow it got put on a setting I never use and I needed to know how to turn it off plus there was no Interweb connection where I was shooting.

Typically I don't use printed manuals of any kind.

AaronM 01-31-2009 11:40 AM

The iPhone doesn't come with a manual either. Oddly enough, I still know how to use it.
