Is this a legal license?

I bought a script I found on the net for a Voting/Review script. When I opened the zip file, it included the license for its use, which was not in the order form.(it was at the bottom of the index page which I did not see) It says it can't be used on an adult site which I intended to use it on. I have tried to get a refund, but get no response back from the guy who is in Egypt. Does this license even look legal?

yes the rights holder of the script can put whatever they want in the license

if they decided that they didnt want people with red hair to use their script they are well within their rights to put that in the license

the same way as a content provider i am well within my rights to say you cant use my image or movie content on tgps or tube sites

My sense tells me that if it was not viewable at the time of sale, then it does not hold water at all. Especially if the guy is in Egypt. He has no legal jurisdiction to bring any kind of case against you. You cannot add to a license after the purchase. Even the visible licenses that you check off on order forms tend to get thrown out in court unless the type is bold and in plain site at the point of sale.

I wouldn't worry about it, but that's me.

Me thinks you are a tad bit off here. Not "whatever they want". there are fair practice and non discriminatory rulings on the books that prevent race, creed, appearance, sexual orientation, etc. from being a factor. in this case , the restriction might hold up...but not if he couldn't see it until it was purchased. no way. he didn't agree to those terms.

Maybe I'll just do a charge back with the credit card company since it was not in the order form at all.

The adult site in question is a directory. There is no nude content on it.

I would try to cancel the order in this case

you bought it, its yours now. if you knew when you bought it that it wasnt ment for "adult type" sites, you wouldn't have bought it.

Obviously the seller didn't make that clear enough and now he has your cash, you have his script, so just use it. If he dosent like it, tell him to give you your money back or fuck off.

I'll bet you never hear of it again, at any rate.
