New car and fucking insurance!

So, bought my new car today. A beautiful Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 TS from 1995. Get the license plate transferred to my name. All fine. So I call my insurance. They didnt let me insure the car since it was too powerful for someone my age, they only accept 24+ drivers for a car with that power. RIDICULOUS! So I call a different insurance company and because the previous one turned me down, this other company didnt want to give me this insurance directly. Now have to drive down to the car again on Friday (2 hour drive) and pick it up. Fucking shit.

Anyway, here's some pics of my bella.

hm btw, you're in NL? how is it there? I guess there's a mandatory insurance and you got it but you want the extra one?

Sosa 01-28-2009 10:00 AM

You didn't check insurance rates etc before you bought the car?

That's a rookie mistake.

Cyndalie 01-28-2009 10:05 AM

Always do your insurance research before buying a car - consider it part of the payment.

directfiesta 01-28-2009 10:09 AM

24 ... + race ( sport ) car .... = high risk

No money to be done by the insurance company ....

They really don't want you .

Gasper 01-28-2009 10:10 AM

I'll never buy more than 1.6 machines with no more than 100 HP! The insurance costs are just too much

Reak AGV 01-28-2009 10:17 AM

Congratulations on your new car :)

That's actually one thing I like about the European auto insurance policies - it prevents unskilled drivers from driving powerful cars. I wish something like this would be instituted in the US, imagine how many 18 y.o. Mustang driving maniacs it would take off the streets! If some 18 y.o. would still want to drive that Mustang he'd be stuck paying 5x the car payment to do that and probably would be more aware of the kind of consequences his behavior might carry.

Sid70 01-28-2009 10:55 AM

1995 ish garbage can, sorry.

Quagmire 01-28-2009 10:57 AM

That car looks like a Ford Probe with an Acura Integra grille and a Subaru XT rear end, and yet strangely I am aroused.

Fat Panda 01-28-2009 12:10 PM

old piece of shit

Allformyspace 01-28-2009 12:15 PM

John-ACWM 01-28-2009 12:18 PM

She's a real bella :winkwink: How much?
(I hear that maintenance is expensive for an alfa)

HomerSimpson 01-28-2009 12:20 PM

no regulations like that in my country :)

pornguy 01-28-2009 12:20 PM

Man you buy a car here and they usually throw in the first year or two of insurance for free.. Total coverage..

ztik 01-28-2009 12:28 PM

At least it will still be in nice shape by the time you turn 24.

Sam Granger 01-28-2009 01:14 PM

Well, filled in the details on their website (car info and mine). Just told me how much it would cost me a month so seemed fine. Also all my previous driving and insurance info... AND I called them telling them I wanted to buy a GTV, that it would be my first car. Person said cool car, just call us when you buy the car and its on your name and we will insure it directly. Thats what pissed me off.

I know, 150 horsepower isn't crazy. Was even planning on supercharging it in future. Might give that a second thought now...

Regarding the price, 2900 euros which was a steal. New clutch, new distribution belt, new brakes and some other parts.

Sam Granger 02-04-2009 06:43 PM

Well, insurance is arranged now! :)

After Shock Media 02-04-2009 06:49 PM

Indeed! Going to be hell if I want to bang a girl in the back of my car... :(

Atleast it has leather seats so I don't have to worry about stains. :upsidedow

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

faster too

evildick 02-04-2009 07:06 PM

That's crazy. How do they determine if a car is too "powerful"? It's just a 2 liter 4 cylinder. That's Dodge Neon territory.

If they do it like motorcycles in Germany, experience/hp or something like that. You can't just start off on a Harley, you have to work your way up.

Ozarkz 02-04-2009 08:07 PM

150hp :1orglaugh My first car had almost double that. Gotta love Insurance companies.

edgeprod 02-04-2009 08:25 PM

I was sweating what the insurance would be when we bought the Viper because my wife is only 24 ... but it turned out "fairly" reasonable with the cars we have.

mikesinner 02-04-2009 09:12 PM

Sell it. Everyone will be walking soon anyway.

Spunky 02-04-2009 09:21 PM

What weird laws.I had a 68 Cuda with a 440 when I was 18.man that car was a blast

JD 02-04-2009 11:00 PM
