What can someone do with my IP address?

I have a bunch of spammers making fake profiles on my dating site and One of them messaged me asking why I blocked him, and I stupidly responded to his email and answered him telling him he was spamming.

Now I realize that when he gets my email he will have my IP address. What can he do with that?
This is a group of nasty spammers from Africa.
fuck.

LiveDose 01-27-2009 11:06 AM

They can see all the pics you saved on your drive of you posing in woman's panties and heels.

It's too late.

unplug it, why not just get a new ip.. disconnect your modem and reconnect it.

clickhappy 01-27-2009 11:16 AM

Btw, this is my router
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-N-Wirel.../dp/B000RMPP5Q
is this good to block people out of my machine? or should I have something different?

Wow, the paranoia runs strong in your veins.

Someone already said it. Unplug your modem for a bit and your IP will refresh.

I use Roadrunner and it can take upto 30 minutes unplugged.

if you have your router turned on for remote management, TURN IT OFF NOW. that means you put in your IP and then :8080 (in most cases)

if not, they will probably just keep pinging every port until they see if something is open

if you are running own site, they may be interested in hacking your database, but you will never realize as the scammers will be quiet, of course. but hacking one target takes so much time with almost no results, so if they will try to break into anything, they will do it on your servers ... if you did not click any link they send to you, you are safe ... imho

Reak AGV 01-27-2009 11:56 AM

Not entirely sure what they can do, but close your ports in the router/modem

I think a hacker would need to be pretty close to you to see your desktop. For example if your wireless connection was not secure and your nabor had sophisticated equipment.

When it comes to internet security, most people are giving their personal information away by not realizing it. Some might throw away a data cd with passwords, or leave emails with passwords in their email box. If you email is cracked your fucked.

Only once I heard of someone chatting and stuff was said, and the next day his family was murdered. It was an Indian family somewhere in New Jersey. Not sure if it was an IP address.
