My Great-Grandma died yesterday. 95 years old!
 

I'm not writing about it asking for sympathy, although I know you guys are a nice gang :) Plus she led a loooooong life with her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, and we all loved her. So instead of asking for pity, I just wanted to share a little anecdote about it.

Great-grandma had been doing poorly for the last few weeks, and my mom and I were talking about the possibility she could die soon. I said "she's not going to die until she turns 95". My mom goes "you can't possibly know!", and I go "just wait and see, she'll die the same day she turns 95, not a minute before".

Lo and behold, she died yesterday, on her 95th birthday. I'm telling you, she was just waiting to turn 95 to let go. Women in my family are tough!

Pretty funny. My grandfather died at 96. Great grandmother at 99. I think back in those days they used to hibernate most of the winter..

My 95 year old grandmother died yesterday. On her way to lunch after church. She was a strong lady who brought up a good family completely with grand children, great grandchildren, and some great great grandchildren.

She lived independently until the middle of last year when the doctors decided she needed more watching because of a couple of bouts with fluid in her lungs. She moved in with my aunt and uncle. She said she didn't want to be sick and dependent on people a long time or lay in a bed and waste away. Her mind was as sharp at a tack. I am glad she was in my life.

She had a long life, and I hope a happy one. Excuse me if this is going to sound stupid, but it is nice for change the hear about someone passing of old age and not at the age of 30.

I too share amazement in what she witnessed throughout her life. I would love to sit down with someone of that age who can remember what the world was like before cars were an everyday thing, electricity wasn't universally available, paved roads were rare, etc. Before airplanes were used for transportation... You can go on and on. The amount of adaptation to live through that period of history shows she was a strong individual.

Just an amazing time in history to live through, she was blessed in that regard.

I can relate. My Grandmother died last month at age 95. She was 'that one' to me, that special person in your life that you feel lost without. I really feel for you, I am still going through it. I can't say 'it gets easier' because I am still waiting for that time, but what I do know is that I was lucky to have her and I know she has paid forward to me in so many ways-just going through it is heartbreaking.

My grandmother took her last breath when I walked into her nursing home room after flying a red eye from LA to Chicago. She waited for me they say.
I know you don't want sympathy, but you acknowledge her-and I acknowledge you for that. Oh, enough mush-thank you for the post and sharing and letting me do the same.

wow 95!... thats almost a century
somewhere I read that the average years humans will reach would be like 150 in 2050 thanks to medicine and nano computers that will work on our longevity cells. Thats good news to the porn industry as we could have more "living customers" looking for porn hehe

My grandmother died at age 89 - strong as an ox. She would work in her garden until midnight every night. She was amazing.

Sounds just like my granny... maybe not midnight... but always doing something, garden canning, cleaning.... Whatever...

That's a great age to live to. If offered I would take it.

95 does sound like a life worth celebrating rather than mourning. My last surviving grandparents died when I was in my late teens so I'm a bit envious of people who get so much more time with theirs.

My great-grandmother died at 90 and had a million stories on how the world had changed since she was a kid. I hope I am lucky enough to live that long for the experience.
