how much to offer car dealer on new mercedes slk350
im buying a new car in a couple of days but want to know how much i should offer the dealer for the package that i want on the slk350 fully loaded it runs to about 80k on the mercedes website but i dont want to have to pay that much for it
do you think i should offer 65k or go lower and negotiate with the dealer from there or would you start out even lower than that |
I dont think theyre selling much cars these days - rape those dealers
|
I paid for a Consumer Reports on my last car, printed that out, a KBB, some comparables etc. Basically I had my shit together, and showed the salesman when we sat down. I was able to talk him down around 7k off their marked price.
At the end, he said: "hey, you came prepared and knew your stuff - you had the facts on paper". That would be my car buying advice - that and the end of the month is a great time (they want to fill quotas). |
Drop a wad of 60, thousand dollar bills on the desk, only thing they can say is no
|
They should be offering steep discounts on high end luxury cars these days. Make sure you deal with the owner or senior management within the dealer.

80k for an slk350?
they are like 60k fully loaded brand new |
is this in the u.s.? that car with every option is not more than 70k full retail.
and without an m-b incentive, the dealer won't go much, if any, below their cost, which is extremely difficult to figure out, but ~3-6% off retail so yes, i'd offer 60-65k |
give them sticker
|
you can probably find the invoice price on edmonds , i was in the car business not long ago, and i don't think they will have 15k in markup in the vehicle. Probably more like 8k in markup in a car like that. then you have your taxes and fees. Check edmonds and find the invoice. You should be able to get it a little bit above invoice + tax and tag.
|
Check kbb for the invoice price and offer $500-1000 under that.
|
you can get brand new 2008 E63's for $65K because of the current market.
Why would you waste that on a SLK350?? For $65K or less you should even be able to easily get a new SLK55. Forget the SLK though and get the 2008 E63... way more bang for the buck. Space, features, power, etc. |
don't expect more than 5% off, or 4k off 80k. economy doesn't hurt high-end cars all too much or they'd run 0% interest, 50k cashback already. I bought my mb few months ago only could get about 3200 off inv.
|
its hurting them a lot, you can get mad crazy discounts.
|
I hope you are a chick buying that car.

Second, the only SLK a man should own is an AMG. It is a chick car, but if you get an SLK 63 AMG, you won't get hassled. I highly suggest you get a used Porsche 911. You'll keep your manhood and the Porsche is a much better car. Finally, If you want a benz, get an E series. I drive an E63 AMG, and it is pimp and makes the ladies wet. :) 507 HP, 0-60 in 4.2, and it looks professional. |
slk isn't a chick car. it's an all-around well done 2 seater convertible.

How many chicks you seeing rolling a P-car? |
that's just not true. see tons of chicks in la driving 911, cayenne, boxsters, etc.
the slk350 has almost 300hp and handles well, looks great too. |

I bought my 08 e63 for around 86K brand new in 2007. It was MSRP around 96K. The economy wasn't completely in the tank when I bought it, so I gotta think you can do even better now. Also, be sure to negotiate your trade-in car, if applicable.
If you are going to insist on the SLK, first, you shouldn't name price first. The first person to name a price in a negotiation loses IMHO. Say, "I want the car, but I won't pay sticker...what can you do." They'll probably come back with a 1-2K off, but hey, it is a start and it only took 2 minutes to do that. Benz dealers will negotiate and drop prices for you. Porsche - no chance. I was thinking about a 911 Turbo and the dealer wouldn't even drop $1K LMAO. Salesguy just said, "dude...people come in here and pay cash for turbos all the time...I'm patient." I just whined and went to the benz dealer to get my ghetto e63 :) |
Go to the car sites and find out what the dealer invoice is for that car. Then find out what the dealer gets from the company when they sell it. In this economy I would offer what they paid for it, minus what they get back + 1000.
When I was purchasing my last car this is kind of what I did. I told them we are about to go into a recession and E MAIL me not CALL me when you have the car I want at the price I will buy it at. A few months pass and they kept on Emailing me with "come in we got the car you wanted!" I just replied and said are you willing to sell me this car for XX out the door? They said no for a few months but then said Yes on the last day of the month! |
Get an ML63. The E-class looks ugly on the front.
I don't think they will bargain like Ford/GM that actually needs the money. Here in Canada, I got a Mercedes. It was 71,000 and she was willing to go down to 68,000. After a bit, she went to 67,000 and that was it. But maybe US is different. |

turbos are sitting on the lots not moving. every dealer is discounting big big big time. im talking about HUGE. You will see the biggest drops on the _NEW_ 2008 models. |

Also, one strike against the E series is it is going to get a new body style next year... |
