its not this simple. its noisy in the store. and it can eb silent unless you run PS and video conversion... I just read couple reviews about HP 6830s its ok buts noisy and if people notice that it means it is noisy cus i am very demanding about it.

a fucking A I know. But how hard is that to go from PC to Mac? and price difference is honestly huge. 1k comparing to about 3k for 17".

Evil Chris 01-19-2009 09:40 AM

I have an HP that is really quiet.

Going from PC to Mac is easy when it comes to most things, hard when it comes to others.

However, you can just put windows on the mbp as well, and boot whichever you need at the time.

That's one thing my Mac lappies do well that my HP doesn't. They are pretty much slient.

HorseShit 01-19-2009 11:59 AM

quietest would be macbook air but honestly they are all pretty quiet

could you post specs, please? Do you have 17"? LOL

The MBPro is a monster machine and works awesome Adobe will transfer your licenses from Windows to Mac OS for the cost of the disks. That probably covers your biggest issue.

I now prefer Apple's email program connected to an IMAP server to Outlook. MS Office is available, but honestly too expensive. I'm using Google Apps for docs and spreadsheets.

I have supported Windows systems in large enterprise environments since the mid-90s. I love my Macs because they just work. I spend very little time with "care and feeding" type of upkeep of any Mac.

oh yeah... throw in the external 24" LED Cinema display ... it's the best display for the money out there at may a grand less than what you'd spend on an equivalent from LaCie or NEC.

I got a Dell Latitude D630 with a solid state drive. The only way you can run cooler and quieter is to leave it turned off.

yours is FOR TEEN inches, man, i need it 17". So far my Vaio is not that loud but it's got vertical pixel line so the matrix is broken. And I am not gonna pay for brand names like Vaio or MCbook.

I use dual monitors, so don't really notice. Pretty sure Dell offers laptops with bigger monitors, the SSHD was the piece of hardware I was talking about.

I have been through a couple mac book pros. The fan breaks after a while and it sounds like a 747 is taking off. Other than that is a great machine.

Here is something I found when I searched for a fix:

SSHD, thats a HDD that doesnt spin I guess so there is nothing to cool down but video card?

pornguy 01-19-2009 12:36 PM

I have a Dell Vostro 1700 has an awesome screen and is actually pretty damn quiet.

dready 01-19-2009 12:36 PM

I'd think choosing one with a SSD would go a long way in helping the noise levels.

sue 01-19-2009 01:05 PM

It's like going from a civic to a bentley... takes some adaptation, but it's definitly better

JD 01-19-2009 03:50 PM

i've got a 15in MBP and it's dead silent

uno 01-19-2009 03:53 PM

Dell makes some pretty quiet laptops.

natas 01-19-2009 04:14 PM

After using laptops in several countries, I've found that no matter what platform you're on, the hotter the climate, the noisier the fans will be as they work to keep the processor cool... this is with both macbooks and pc laptops...

example - living in Australia for half of last year, it was that hot over there that my fans would kick in after an hour or two and stay on screaming, this was followed by a gradual slowing down of the whole computer and random crashes. I went and bought a cooling pad that solved the slowing down problem, but added more noise. The one I bought was neither subtle or quiet but immediately solved all system issues. (I'm sure there are quieter/better pads on the market though)

On the other foot - while in Toronto, I didn't need any cooling whatsoever as it was that damn cold :winkwink: Hardly heard my fans kick in ever, system(s) worked fine

I'm no expert - this is just my personal experience :2 cents:

WinstonTriplexcash 01-19-2009 04:15 PM
