I had an English teacher in college use the Simpsons to explain some of the classics, and she was telling us how we as a young generation and not as educated only probably get about 60%-70% of the jokes, because they parody or reference many literary elements that a majority of society are not very familiar with. She and other highly educated people technically were able to enjoy it more because so much of the humor was like that. I did stop watching the Simpsons a few years ago, it wasn't very clever or funny to me. But the old ones were unbeatable.

I think people forget how awesome the Simpsons were. I can still watch those old episodes I've seen a million times and they put a smile on my face. Family guy is funny, but I get the feeling in 10 years they won't have that same lasting power.
