if there is an event and somebody dies, should it be stopped?

Witnesses said the red truck was driving in circles, and a spray of metal pieces came off of the truck and flew over a safety barrier. The pieces knocked the man off of his feet and hit the boy in the head, causing them to bleed and creating a rather gruesome scene.

After the boy was hit, witnesses said a man in shock rose up from his seat and began yelling, "My kid is dead! My kid is dead!" The boy's father was not injured.

Witnesses said after the accident, people began leaving in droves but event organizers continued on with the show. "It was kind of angering a lot of people that they didn't even stop the show," Mausten said.

It should be stopped if a spectator dies.

10 spectators could die in the stands at the Super Bowl and the game would continue.

The main reason for the truck show to stop was that it was the trucks themselves
that caused the death.

Well if it was like.... being an Astronaut and someone dies on a spacewalk.. then I'd have to say NO.

BlackCrayon 01-18-2009 02:59 PM

Definitely should have been stopped.

Actually, if you have ever been involved with large scale events you'd know that stopping the event is a bad idea.

Morally it sounds like it should be stopped but it's better to let people fade out on their own because when you just stop events wide-spread panic and/or angry-mob mentality ensues. You can never get the loudspeakers loud enough to tell people why the event has stopped because once it stops people start yelling and screaming and it can become really really violent.

I agree, from a spectators point of view that it should be stopped. I would be horrified to find out I sat there watching an event while some little boy was dying due to the very event I was watching. But from an ex-promoter's view, I know keeping the event going can save more lives.
