.xx is now available!

Had no idea until I read about it on a blog and found out that new.net is offering tons of extensions including .xxx before other companies such as moniker are offering it. I tried punching in some names I thought wouldn't be taken yet and sadly they are. Im not for it or against it just surprised that its already being offered.

seeric 01-16-2009 04:08 PM

.xxx will never happen. even if it did, .com will remain the supreme extension. there are many reasons for that. its very complicated. search .xxx here for more. the same points still apply years later.

BlackCrayon 01-16-2009 04:10 PM

Its a scam dude.

So it is a scam and would not be wise of me to register a few through them?

Also what is this:

Please note: the above domain names are only resolvable through our partner ISPs
or by using our proprietary Domain Decoder plugin.

Well I did read it from a legit site wired.com so I'm assuming that new.net can't be a scam. For whoever is interested here's the article I found new.net from http://www.wired.com/techbiz/media/news/2001/03/42217

That is from 2001?

Chef86 01-16-2009 04:27 PM

It seems that way but I just saw the article today so I'm assuming that .xxx was available back in 2001 by the companies mentioned. The only thing is it's not mandatory yet that all sites need to be .xxx to be live.

Iron Fist 01-16-2009 04:28 PM

hell I can run a .xxx registry if you hardcode your system to point to my root domain server too! I can run anything! .porn .sex .tits .fuck

Laugh.

woj 01-16-2009 05:14 PM

Those domains are worthless they only work for people that have some plugin installed...

I had read somewhere that the adult industry wanted the .xxx extension, in which would give them more legitimacy, and due to this you can see why it never happened. ICANN may control the web, but the Federal Gov. controls everything.

They had also suggested that all adult websites would have to have a .xxx extension which would be crazy since some domain names with several extensions are owned by several different people. Who the fuck ownes the trademark "HOT PUSSY"?

everyone knows .com and will always be that way. unless you plan to target a specific country like canada, then but the .ca, otherwise anything else is useless IMO unless you are trying to make a quick buck off some moron to resell it o

No the adult industry did not want the .xxx extension - well most anyone with a brain who was not in it for the money grab. It also would not add legitimacy at all, it just would allow for easy censorship and establish an internet ghetto.

As for forcing everyone to a .xxx extension be required - beyond any legal ramifications in trying to actually enforce it. You would have conflicts between assorted extensions. You did ask who owned the trademark, which is actually an easy question. Odds are if someone does own an actual trademark then they get the domain on all extensions. I do not think that is what you meant though and I think you just mean who would have the right to a domain name in such an event.

doridori 01-16-2009 08:59 PM

adultvest would be interested. lol

Dagwolf 01-16-2009 09:00 PM

I ain't buying.

FightThisPatent 01-16-2009 09:05 PM

you should hold off for .xxxxxxxxxxx because the TLD goes to 11

Fight the domain tap!

new.net is one of those pseuoregistrars where people will not be able to resolve domain names unless the surfer has made some changes on their comp (such as changing the DNS server to query) or they've conned the ISP into querying them for "alternate" TLDs.

I doubt it's really about selling domains, the query data they capture is probably a lot more valuable. :2 cents:
