Good or bad idea to get my younger brother involved in this biz?

I want to see my brother become as succesful as he can be. He is in college right now, he is 21, and ive been open with him about what I do.

I see him busting his ass working 40 hrs a week (even on Sundays) and I would like to see him break those chains of wage slavery.

Do you think its a good or bad idea to get him in this business?

Not even sure what he would come to *do* yet, but he does have skills. He is very bright, doesnt have drug or alcohol problem like most 20 year olds, and Id like to pass a torch to him if I could and see what he is made of...

Good or bad?

DamageX 01-16-2009 07:15 AM

If he has enough self-discipline to keep going, sure.

CurrentlySober 01-16-2009 07:17 AM

If you can help him, although he is young, then yes... Good idea :)

Since he is in school and taking all kinds of marketing and business related classes, everytime I see him we are talking about *new businesses* - Ive thrown everything at him from t-shirt businesses to adult...

last year he wanted to start a bar lol (i directed him to my friend who owns bars in New Orleans and he talked him out of it lol)

Due to his age and academic performance he is definitely part of the web 3.0 crowd, he graduated high school with high GPA, and does very well in school...and i like watching him surf and check out the latest social sites he is on etc... he is very active online and i just see it as an opportunity for me to throw him a line...

i think genuinely people enjoy helping others, and I do, especially when its my brother, so i think i will talk to him more about it... hbut still on the fence i suppose...

Try it, but with very clear guidelines on expectations, etc.

If possible, try it while he is still doing whatever else it is that he does.

We all know that the day to day reality of this isn't for everyone, and better him know what it is really like before he gives up what he has.

pair of extra hands :)

DannysReviews|com 01-16-2009 07:22 AM

Sure why not? Also, why not do some mainstream on the side?

Domain Diva 01-16-2009 07:22 AM

Yes I would give him a shot ,see how he goes :)

well, he is in school for law, and thats why i started talking to him about adult... I kept telling him, dude, fuck defending criminals, come to adult with law and youll make more. Thats sort of why I want to get him in NOW, and not years from now... so he can work from doing shit work, possibly up to involving law with his adult work...

id love to see him be as sucessful as he could be. And there is no other place Id rather see a lawyer, than on my side, IN ADULT lol

yes, that was my plan as well. Ive already did that though and have explained much of how mainstream works to him. And shown him lots of sites with examples on how to monetize traffic etc, which is why he is beginning to become more interested in joining the web club

John-ACWM 01-16-2009 07:29 AM

You can always give him an advice and a helping hand. Give him a program that converts and easy to work with. Watch him grow and his attitude about it. You'll see later what to do next. Good luck

yes, and ive seen people have a brother be a scammer on this forum and how it follows them,...

while i do not think he would start *ripping*people off, the last thing *I* need, is my brother to piss someone off and then have that shit on my coattail... I would definitely talk DEEEEP about how bringing him in will somewhat reflect on me...

on the other hand, is he is excellent and makes a name for himself, that would reflect positively, so i still dont mind taking the risk.

I helped my little brother into porn when he was 16. Couln't stand him making a shitty wage in a green house when he could be making more ;)))

15 you twat :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

gornyhuy 01-16-2009 07:59 AM

I'm all for helping people out and giving them some guidance, but I have a strong reluctance to mix business with family.

Houdini 01-16-2009 08:15 AM

I would get him into mainstream. It's one thing for him to be using his law degree to work in adult, but it's another for an attorney that had a background building sites too. It sounds like he has a lot of potential and that could haunt him later.

I misread what you had posted then. I thought he was going to school and working at a low wage job.

I guess there would be two questions...

a) Could working in adult be harmful to his future in any way?

b) What happens between the two of you if something goes wrong in regards to you working together?

LiveDose 01-16-2009 08:20 AM

I would let him ask you first. To succeed in your own businesses you need to be extremely hungry.

Fletch XXX 01-16-2009 08:23 AM

I dont plan on working *with* him, I was going to start him in mainstream first and see where it went... i would never tie a family member to my business interestes ever.

mizmiz 01-16-2009 08:30 AM

I did try helping my friend a while ago, I wanted to help him get into adult indusry web sites..
but it all went wrong...He never wanted to learn stuff by himself all he had done was asking me more and more questions...and being a teacher is pain in the ass....

Peaches 01-16-2009 08:38 AM

I agree with putting him in mainstream. He's young and getting him into porn, and possibly not having it work out, will leave a porn "stink" on him that despite how openminded we want everyone to be, could be a problem in the future.

However, I'd first let him see what he can do on his own - if he's good then there will be companies recruiting him out of college and working for someone else is better for a lot of people.

Scott McD 01-16-2009 08:41 AM

I don't think it would be a bad thing anyway, although you never know how things will work out.

I say give him a shot at it, and take it from there. He can then make his own decision whether he wants to stick at it or go in another direction...

tranza 01-16-2009 09:05 AM

Well, he's not a child anymore, so let him in!!

Libertine 01-16-2009 09:47 AM

Without reading the rest of the thread...

Go for mainstream instead of adult. There's more growth potential there, and less decline going on.

Once he gets the hang of it, he should easily be able to test a new business idea every two weeks or so with minimal investment. That will keep him from getting bored and gives him the opportunity to find something he likes which is profitable.

Bojangles 01-16-2009 11:10 AM

Hook a brotha up.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 01-16-2009 11:13 AM

The gay porn sites are always looking for new talent...plus you get a referral fee. :winkwink:

andy83 01-16-2009 11:26 AM

thats a good idea (if he aint against it). mixing law and adult certainly has some good points. wish both of you the best!

Si 01-16-2009 11:33 AM

My older brother is the one that got me started.

Started out on a mainstream project with him, then got me building a small little network of TGPS. Most important things I learned from that was traffic building etc. He helped me out with all the hosting and bought the scripts, designs etc. I was pretty much on my own from there. Back when I registered to this board the first time (2003?) I was still in high school and he told me to learn how to crank out AVS sites, never really did anything with that and now I really wish I would have.

All in all I am very thankful for him helping me out, after a little less then a year in, I am now starting to cash my own checks :thumbsup. Still in college as well so I do what I can with the time I got.

And just don't let it be public he is your brother, that way your business interest are out of the way. I could probably use my brothers status and get some nice contacts within the industry, but I would rather do it myself.

woj 01-16-2009 11:41 AM

Just let him try it, more likely than not he will quit before he even begins though... running an online business always sounds great when bullshitting about it over a few beers, but once it comes down to sitting down and actually doing work most people back out...

TheLegacy 01-16-2009 11:47 AM

As long as he's in it for the right reasons - $$ and a career then sure. You already know he wont last long if he's interested to get laid - drunk etc. If what your saying is right, then why not? Nothing to be ashamed of our industry - but keep in mind that now there is one other person who knows all your secrets - and can you afford to have that out?

LOL

D-Money 01-16-2009 11:52 AM

I brought my brother in.

KB

Was that a good move or a bad move?

:1orglaugh

ContentPimp 01-16-2009 11:59 AM

I think it's a good idea, better to play online than to slave at a job listening to a boss
