Greatest Internext Ever! Attendance Reaches 5000!
 

Actually, I'll let you debate the first point, but if you want to give me any personal feedback, please hit me on ICQ or email (the latter being the better option).
And of course, the second point isn't accurate at all, but I figured since everyone else doubles or triples their attendance numbers when they are "released" that I might as well too.

In all seriousness, I'd like to take a moment to add some transparency to this year's Internext Las Vegas show, since there are some fairly ignorant assumptions floating around out there.

First, attendance at this year's show looks to be very comparable to what it was last year. In this economy, that came as a mild and pleasant surprise.

Second, the schedule. I see people complaining that the show didn't begin with a party on Sunday, and that there was no show floor on Monday. However, this is the exact same schedule we followed last year. The one difference is that the show started a day later - on Monday, instead of Sunday - because AEE ran one day longer, until Sunday, instead of ending on Saturday like it usually does.

So, I'm not really sure where the idea that the show was somehow different or shorter came from. Come in for the AVN Awards next year. You can be hungover as hell like the rest of us on Sunday.

The last thing I want to touch upon, are a couple items that really bother me.

1. People who blatantly talk shit about me and my company on the boards and then try to be my bro when I see them in person. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but our staff busts its ass year round to put out the best possible product, so when people say stuff like 'AVN should die,' or 'AVN are a bunch of scumbags,' it angers me. What pisses me off more, is when people I know, people I've hung out with and supposedly have a good relationship with, people who have all of my contact info say it. If you are too small to contact me and tell me what issues you have personally, then don't pretend to be my friend. Be my enemy, and we'll leave it at that. Otherwise, be a man and talk to me about it or show me the respect of staying out of the bashing.

2. People whom I've met on countless occasions, who pretend to have no idea who I am, and people who pretend they want to do business in order to get the perks of the people that we actually do business with. Oddly enough, these seem to be the same people who only "know me" when they need a favor or want to complain about something. So, no, I won't help you find a job the next time you need one. No, I don't have anymore panel slots left, ever. No, I cannot get you a badge.

Overall, we felt the show came together nicely. If you ran into problems, please let me know and we will address them. Alternatively, if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them - but please email me, because I need some sleep.

Show was terrific for me. I went to the show to do business and I did TONS of it.

This is a business, it's not entirely about making friends... but one thing it's really NOT about, is making enemies. Now you're asking people who disagree or don't like your work to be your enemies ?

What I read sounds about right from my experiences in this indistry over the years. People talk shit and say bad shit and when they see you in person they want to do business and be a "Friend".

At any rate, I didnt goto the show, I never goto shows anymore and frankly I hate all the trade shows equally, there simply is just to many of them and I ask myself how the fuck can people work when they got to fly somewhere in the world every month and get drunk?

this has always been my favorite show. i have the best memories from it and many of my best meetings (plus it's in my favorite city). this year was no different as far as the biz and fun were concerned. i did post in another thread that the schedule was the talk of the day on Monday. it confused most of us because we obviously didn't look into it ahead of time. assumed it was same as the year before, just creatures of habit. i wouldn't say attendence was that down by the looks of things at the show. parties were packed and JFK told me that the 9am seminar on Mon. morning was completely packed (that is insane for 9am in Vegas!). soooo........great show, most of us blew it by coming in on and leaving on the wrong days.

It definitely made me lose more hope in the bigger companies helping to lead the way when I read that they pulled that shit with Andrew Conru. That is a giant slap in the face to every content producer out there. I'm sure I'll be scolded by the few people I look up to in this business for saying something public, but that was just straight up bullshit. I'm sure many feel the same. And, although I've kept my mouth shut lately on the piracy thing because no one listens, I will certainly tell MJ to his face and be real about my position on that when I see him. It won't do any good, but I will tell him as I have told him other things that bother me.

However, there are plenty of straight faced, no bullshit, do not pull any punches, people in this business who are not fucking panzies who get all bent out of shape about board drama. I think it was Atlanta, but it could have been Internext Fla, a dude (not going to name them) came up and was like, "Hey Barefootsies! I know you from the board"... blah blah. long story short, he was someone I do not care for on the boards, and had talked to a time or two via ICQ. Once I knew who it was that was talking to me, I politely excused myself (as it was a group setting) and avoided them from that point on.

I'm one of those people that definitely posted some negative things about AVN in the weeks leading up to the show and I would like to sincerely apologize. I definitely had a great show in Vegas this year and I know Chris and Monty did a really great job at organizing this show and even more at making sure everyone was taken care. So, I sincerely apologize for the gripes I mentioned.

Look, it's really simple- MJ is learning what most vets in this business have known for a LONG time. People don't give a fuck about you unless you have something to offer them

I don't give passes away when it's the job of the sponsors to do that.

It's why we take sponsors in the first place, so that people will do business with our partners.

Believe me when I am hot I am hot- when I have nothing of value to give to anyone I am not.

I think it's all about what you bring to the table with AVN MJ. If people aren't buying the bullshit- then make up new bullshit.

This business is very fickle- and I could name off over 50 people that have come and go from this business that everyone used to praise on these chatboards.

I can tell you this much- the playing field has been leveled and the people who used to be traffic kings are now traffic paupers. You have to kiss a lot of new ass and quit sniffing the old ones.

People do suck, however the people I always work for are stand up and I give them plenty of bang for their buck.

Also-just my 2 cents but I wouldn't go ranting on this boad about people being good for nothing freeloaders.

It will just fall on deaf ears most of the time and the ones lurking who are real players will see you as bitter.

I to used to feel like you Monty- but I woke up and quit drinking and doing drugs with all these assholes at shows and got my shit together. WHen you are sober and doing business at a show it's way different than being fucked up and believing the hype-

I am not inferring that you are getting fucked up- I am mostly trying to say that while I have been sober, it's a totally different tradshow experience. It's almost like I have extra sensory overload and can see and hear bullshit form a mile away at these shows now.

I'll sum up my experience by saying this...

Next year I'll save my badge fee and just hang out at the bars and private rooms. That is where the business is done, not inside so much. I just went to see some friends and ended up locking down some BIG money content deals, all done with people I met at hotel bars, never once inside the show. I met a lot of guys who didn't even step onto the show floor, there was no need.

Many people didn't even show up on the 2nd day (floor show 2nd day) and it was a ghost town. Even many of the exhibitors staff left early so really you just had 1 OK floor day. The seminars were mostly full but honestly, having them start at 9am when you know damn good and well people are at parties until the wee hours the night before is pretty stupid.

If you want an honest opinion, combine it with the AEE, fill out the dead space from that show and do things right over 3 days AFTER the CES show is over. It would make the entire thing look bigger and fill it with people. Stop trying to get us for 2 separate shows, those days are over. Consolidate and bring out the best in both.

I'll also say that if you advertise on banners and such as starting on one day and ending on another, then START and END on those days on the floor. It's my fault for not reading the smaller print on your site, I just read the BIG BOLD dates that Internext was, headed over and was let down that the show was not starting on that day. Lame. LOTS of people thought the same. With that said, the show could not last for 3 days because nobody would be there if it did, so I understand doing 2 days even though 1 day was plenty.

Also, stop fucking with people. If it cost $300 to get in (laugh) then don't do deals with boards for 1/2 of that price later. You pissed of a lot of people by doing that. A very poor business move and sorry attempt to get more people to the show because attendance was down. Very transparent.

Bad Dog - I guess I was wrong to lump in people who are no longer around that were in the bro club- but I think it's kinda relevant.

I have been in this business for 11 years and I have seen many people come and go.
None of them had much talent and thats whay they didn't succeed.

I am seeing more and more newbies entering this business and are completely delusional and stupid "Johnny come lately's". I know it's tough for AVN to discriminate but I met some people who had no business being at this show including a brothel owner frmo Jamaica who wants to bring porn stars down to Ocho Rios-

I mean come on- It's bad enough that at the AEEthey had booths selling teeth whitening companies and massage chairs-

But now these idiots have trickled into our "La Costra Nostra" via the floodgates being opened.

I think if AVN can somehow manage to turn this tradeshow into one that is more intimate and value added- it can succeed.

I think the folks over at AVN did work their asses off and the attendance in no way was a reflection on them. Vegas was simply dead all over.
