Thai soldiers are detaining illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Burma and forcing them back out to sea in boats without engines, survivors say.

Survivors say their hands were tied and they were towed out to sea with little or no food or water.

About 500 migrants are now recovering from acute dehydration in India's Andaman islands and the Indonesian province of Aceh.

Thai officials were not immediately available for comment.

But sources in the police and army confirmed to the BBC's Jonathan Head in Bangkok that asylum seekers are being pushed out to sea. They did not provide further details about the practice.

Thousands of poor Burmese and Bangladeshis try to reach south-east Asian nations in search of work.

This was done to people in my family during the great Expulsion in 1755. My family had been here since 1600s and were being forced out put on boats with no food etc... this has been happening for hundreds of years to immigrants. This is why my bloodline gathered in Southeast Louisiana, ...

I wish we would do that here in the UK. Instead we offer them homes, jobs, and anything else we can think of. Yet treat our own people like shit...

I pretty much tagged that area of the world as a fucked up area when I found out about slave brothels where they tie 8 year old girls down to beds so the locals can rape them.

The people just want a better life man.. Can you say, that you wouldn't risk everything to do the same for your family, if you were in their situation? Not everyone is born into a reasonaly good situation. Even if you are the poorest of the poor in the US, you are likely a step above millions of people around the world.
