It seems someone is a littled pissed
I recieved two fake cease and desist letters this morning regarding CCBill Sponsor Sites. They have been forwarded to CCBills fraud department, I am sure there attorneys are going to love this one.
A note to people sending fake cease and desists. 1. You probably shouldn't forward an email you recieved. 2. You should probably make sure your name, address and site URL are not in the original cease and desist. 3. You should probably make sure that the date is correct. or at least close, not 6 months old. 4. You should probably make sure that the email does not reveal that you run a phishing scheme. 5. Upon your realizing that you sent them to domainsbyproxy you shouldn't panic and send an explanation asking them to disregard I was pissed at first, now this is just laughable! with permission of the admin here I will gladly post the attachment I recieved, but where it contains personal info until I get permission I will hold on to it. |
I give you permission....Post it.
|
there is no rule against posting proof of what you say... only linking another forum will get you banned.

Still don't get it. This letter would have had to have been sent by a complete and utter idiot for them to believe a letter like that would cause you to shut down your site without asking questions. Yet, at the same time, the letter is intelligent sounding and well-written. I can't wait to hear how this unfolds. I hope it's dramaliscious. :-) Can't be any worse than that AnnaXbiz thread from a few days ago. |
who gives a fuck

1. it wasnt addressed to me, it was addressed to some guy in another state 2. it wasn't addressed to my host 3. it cites a url that i don't own 4. it cited a a service mark I don't use 5. it cited my website as a phishing scheme, we are not a consumer site, nor do we collect any user info. I am pretty sure the letter is a real C & D from ccbill to someone else, but I am also pretty sure it was just a scare tactic from a competitor. |
wow thats 'in crazy

Sometimes I have problems grasping just how retarded some people are. They sent it to you, but it was addressed to someone in another state? and all that other wrong info... lame, what dumbasses. My favorite is the phishing emails I've been getting from the "Federal Reserve" with a url to click that has the word "phishing" in it. :1orglaugh |

Have you contacted CCBILL and asked them if it was ok to use their trademark in the domain name?

actually even if that one was fake i wouldn't be surprised if you received a real one from CCBill soon since they are sending those out to other sites similar to yours. :2 cents:

It's good not to post the personal info because if the scammer is any good at all
that info is fake. Name and address could belong to a disabled person and the scammer has the key to the mail box to "help the disabled fellow out". |
