What is the coolest gadget you have purchased lately?

I love gadgets..even if it is just admiring them from afar. Most of mine end up being kitchen gadgets such as the upgraded breadmaker I got for Christmas or the automatic egg cooker my sister got me..lol So, not exactly cool but useful.

Show off the coolest or wackiest gadgets you have gotten recently.

How many of you love Eggs Benedict but hate to try cooking the eggs???

Well I found the solution about a month ago on a clearance table and it's the perfect Microwave Poached Egg cooker :thumbsup

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...gg_Poacher.jpg

A teaspoon of water in each side, add egg to each side, break yolk & microwave for One Minute!

Toast a muffin, grill a couple slices of Canadian bacon(or any type ham),
whip up a little Hollandaise and "BAM"... Perfect Eggs Benedict!

By perfect you mean perfectly rubbery, right?

Mine is even better than that (lets see if it lets me hotlink)

It works great but I wonder how it passed health and safety laws. It has this metal spike thing attached to it and you have to poke a whole in your egg shell so it won't blow up. Then you put the eggs in holders and pour an amount of water in them based on how 'done' you want the eggs from soft boiled to hard. It works very well but you just know somebody is going to get that metal spike through their hand. Hopefully, that somebody is not me.

Now, a convertible roof would be cool and pointless..hence a good gadget.

Fletch XXX 01-14-2009 10:04 AM

you mentioned your breadmaker, I have been the luckiest man since Cherry got hers.... she keeps the house full of fresh french bread, and as i type this is making home made pizza dough for our homemade pizza for lunch

breadmakers are the shit...

Seriously..especially if you are trying to cut crap out of your eating life (as I know you do). Since I eat mostly veggie foods these days (I admit some slip ups but mostly fishy ones) and so my splurge is good bread and you can do some great bread for next to no money compared to buying it. I do pizza dough in there and do lovely pizza that not only tastes better than the delivery people but even with all the toppings is both cheaper and way healthier.

Mine also makes jam and pasta dough. I haven't played with those yet though.

Fletch XXX 01-14-2009 10:10 AM

i found the pizza dough made from scratch is much more filling, and i love the crust... Cherry is the cook around here, she deserves all the credit.

And yes, since going veggie, the breadmaker has been making a lot of noise on the counter.

Ordered delivery pizza hurts my stomach so bad (cheese) that its simply not worth eating... however, a homemade pizza with vegan soy cheese and homemade sauce from scratch cannot be topped (no pun intended) by some delivery pizza.

i agree with you 100%

i eayt French bread with all my meals and glad i no longer have to run to local baker to get fresh bread, cherry makes them every day or so

I didn't say it wasn't useless. I guess, it actually steams them rather than boils them. I have just never been very good at boiling eggs to the level I like. They either are too soft, too hard or break in the pan. This is the lazy way to get them done. I can put them in, walk away and then they are done.

No eggs Benedict..just soft or hard boiled.

tranza 01-14-2009 10:29 AM

I truely don't have any gadget I think.

I rather spend money on big screen TVs, home theaters and such.

Simple fix when your gadget breaks - take the pan off the heat and boil room temperature eggs. Either the tossing from the boiling water breaks them or you are putting them in the pan cold and the expansion of the gasses break them.

That thing works wonders on kitchen floors that dogs have messed up.

The steam cleaner infomercials are one of the few that actually almost get me.

Paid 2/3 the price and got all the "and if you buy now we'll throw in..." extras at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

We tried that on our laminate wood floors hoping it would be easier to keep them clean with the dog slobber etc. No dice, it left nasty streak marks like everything else we have tried.

Google / T-Mobile G1 by far

Video, music, wi-fi, bluetooth, gps, and you can mount it like a usb drive. By far this little thing is the best gadget since the push-up bra.

After Shock Media 01-14-2009 04:13 PM

I have so few gadgets. Who would of thunk it eh?

todhunter 01-14-2009 04:26 PM

This.

Cost me about $70, it's about the size of a pack of gum, and if I'm not too picky about sound quality it'll record about 300 hours if the AA battery holds out. High-quality digital stereo, 12 hours.

Stereo mics on top, pointing opposite directions. Mic jack and earphone jacks on top. Dime-sized speaker on the back. Cap on the bottom pops off to reveal a USB port.

That's my coolest recent gadget.

I am using my favorite new gadget right now to type this reply. I love my new Samsung Rant cell phone. It works super fast with Sprint service for voice; data and texting plus it has EVDO for fast web browsing with the Opera mini browser in addition to instant messenging; a decent camera and expandable memory capability with up to a 16 Gb micro SD card. The one click interface and real buttons beat any touch screen or Windows mobile device for ease of use as far as I am concerned. It's the best $50 I have ever spent.

Umm we have tried some Swiffer deal no idea if had batteries or not. Everything we have tried leaves nasty streak marks. We have a little darker laminate floor so it really shows the dog slobber/streaks. Only way we have been able to clean it is hand/knees with plane water and drying it right away.

Babaganoosh 01-14-2009 04:58 PM

Not sure if this counts as a gadget or not but my netbook is probably my favorite new toy.

It's like the Asus EEE but infinitely better.

I didn't buy it, but recently converted an old, dual p3 I acquired into a home mp3 server. Put in a spare 80gb drive, installed linux and other software, and threw it in a closet. I'm a cheap bastard, I guess. And I really don't dig using my Ipod when I'm on my laptop.

SordidShawn 01-14-2009 10:14 PM

I bought myself an eeePC 1000 for Christmas. It's pretty neat, but incredibly strange to use a nearly-full-sized keyboard with half of a screen and absolutely no noise.
