Cologroup treason
... sources say it may be a rouge employee that fucked things up last night at cologroup on their way out the door. missing equipment, changed passwords, johnny law, etc.
that's really fucked. cologroup is a small shop with some big clients, good prices, and actually pretty freakin good service. treason hurts the worst. :( |
XFR Networks is the fuggin' bomb.
Nary a problem, fast as chain blue lightning, and the guys over there kick fucking ass. |
check the sig :thumbsup
trust me... you'll forget the meaning of "site's down" |

seriously... if you need a solid box, talk to Ray over there at XFR... tell him Amp sent you and he'll hook you up.
My site has NEVER.... that's right.... NEVER been down since the day it went live on XFR's servers. :glugglug |
I can't say that Whoa has never ever been down. There was one downtime a few months ago. That's it. You can't claim 100% uptime about any hosting company.
Why choose Whoa though ? All the cool kids on the block host there, the server support is pretty much unbeaten (from what I've seen over the years), the pricing is right and the pipes are fast :thumbsup They're even gonna get faster very soon :Graucho Ask others about Whoa's rep in this biz and you won't hear anything but good stuff. Spam over and out. |

I already did. :glugglug |
Even if this rumor about "treason" IS true, it would be nice for Cologroup to inform their clients of the situation. As a Cologroup customer, I could care less about the backstage antics of the company. The only thing that matters is the service (or lack there of at the moment) I'm receiving. The bottom line is my cologroup sites have been down for over 18 hours and I'm pissed to say the least.

That sucks if thats the case. |

Don't say it can't be done because it can -- there are just only a few people that actually do it. |

It *might* be possible to keep your sites up 100% of the time, but then you probably hafta face bills that'll break your wallet. |

I used to host with Rackspace and I can tell you that yes they have been down within the last couple of years. They were hit with a DOS attack that affected almost all of their IP's. They pulled the plug for a couple of hours during this attack. After this they came out with their Exterminator service to stop DOS attacks. I have to say their customer service level is unmatched from any other host I have ever experienced, but they are very expensive.

I am not getting paid by Rackspace to post on their behalf. In fact I do not host with them anymore because their prices were just way too high. Just adding my 2 cents that all webhosts go down at one time or another. It is how they handle themselves during this time that matters. Rackspace answered their phone and told me what was happening. I have a dedicated with cologroup and have been calling their number since 3 am last night and keep getting the "you have reached the message center" recording.

I will look into the XFR you rave about so. I have been doing this since the good old days of NSCA and have had servers with many different hosts and have yet to experience one that never had no downtime for some reason or another. Even used to be with local Pixi until they pulled me because I was using half of their bandwidth when all they had was a T1
|
It's a fucking miracle. My cologroup sites are back up. Gee, it only took them 18 hours to fix whatever the fuck was wrong...just enough time to fuck up my traffic. Thanks Cologroup :BangBang:

By the way, you got any nude pictures of Linda Lingle?

This is off topic, really not my business, and may have been asked and answered. You were missing in action for a few days. Aaron suggested that you might have been moving. Care to fill me in? |

as far as me being MIA.... I was working.... and pondering life again. I really shouldn't be posting right now, but there are some factors I can't ignore right now. Not prudent for me to be gone.... for now..... expect the next MIA to be much more extensive. :glugglug |
aha try getting support at rackshack
u better be a mean sys admin otherwise buy a cople bottles of valium. Also not sure about their infracton policy, heard they just asume client did violate it , unilaterally. |

Here is the truth about what's happening:
Railz's Armed Squirrel took out his rage on the Cologroup datacenter. Damn AS! |
I thought so :P
I hear horror stories about them all the time. So fun to hear that you do indeed get what you pay for still :) |

All I can say is that obviously something detrimental happened and I wish all of the clients and Cologroup the best of luck getting everything back to normal. I think it's terrible mojo for any hosts to be spamming in these threads, this scenario is obviously any host's worst nightmare. For the clients of Cologroup the rest of us can only hope that your sites bounce back right away and that the damage caused isn't permanent. Hopefully your host will do their best to make everything up to you. Being a host myself, I'm getting chest pains just thinking about what Jason is going through right now - I wouldn't wish that on any company or client.
Sincerely, Brad P.S. - On a side note, PicIndex, with all due respect you're uninformed and haven't the slighted idea of what you're talking about. :winkwink: |

I have been doing hosting for 6 years now. So what makes you say that? |
Cologroup down again?

Otherwise, you are correct, providers that are multi-homed with redundant equipment throughout should theoretically be up 100% of the time. Brad |
Every host has issues. The determining factor in my mind on whether or not the host is a solid company or not is how they handle their problems.
Customers should always be informed of any issues asap. They do not deserve to be paid lip service after the fact. That said, Jason seems like a good guy. I KNOW I would be extremely stressed out if something like this happened to me. Thank god I havent had to deal with any nasty situations for a LONG time :) |

On Cologroups behalf, I had all my sites down. We lost both disks, databases, back ups and everything. Jason came to our aid ASAP. He brought extra techs in, got us a new server, started data recovery and also worked via ICQ to help us.
We were down about 7 hours, but they recovered about 60% of our stuff (including our message board) I know it sucks when this stuff happens but I have to say they did a super job helping us and made it as easy as possible for us. Thanks Jason, Swampfox and Rossiya for all your help in getting our server and sites back up. Miss Daily |
