Micro soft giving up on Vista???

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/01/08/m...rss_topstories

..........Ballmer announced that Microsoft is releasing a beta version of Windows 7, which will be available for download beginning Friday. The news suggests the world's largest software maker may be giving up efforts to rehabilitate its often-maligned Vista operating system, which was released worldwide in January 2007.

where are all the vista lovers now? :error

StuartD 01-08-2009 12:10 PM

Giving up? I doubt it. I think they'll just keep overlapping OS's all the time at this point. Bring out a new system every year or two, differing versions of the same thing every 6 months. Just pollute the market with their stuff so heavily that people feel that's all they have to choose from is some flavour of windows.

WarChild 01-08-2009 12:10 PM

Everyone I know the runs Vista has been having no problems with it at all.

Of course, I don't know anyone trying to make 5 year old sound cards work under it either, so maybe that's why.

WiredGuy 01-08-2009 12:13 PM

They peaked when they did Windows 2000 in my opinion. Now they're just reworking the OS to push onto the market every 1-2 years. What real advancements have come out since Windows 2000 that have made a significant impact?

For most people that's already true because they don't have a choice in the
store. All the computers come with windows and most people don't know about
installing another OS.

If you ask the store tech if another OS is available the answer is always no,
then (whisper : you have to go online to find one :1orglaugh).

XP was built off of 2000 vista is totally new and totally crap :)

Everything that ran on 2000 ran fine on XP :)

andy83 01-08-2009 12:24 PM

vista is the shits.
even 3.1 is better

Si 01-08-2009 12:27 PM

I use vista, even things on my laptop like the touchpad fuck up because they conflict with it. and the layout is totally shit.

Non vista related but... the new IE is fucking terrible aswell!

Thinking of backing everything up on a usb drive, formatting it and loading up linux.

Or maybe try 7 when it comes out.

Eitherway vista is ok but unreliable and a pain in the ass!

Vista works great for me, and I do serious computer abuse with 3D animation and After Effects compositing + editing.

It works fine and is a decent operating system. People don't know what the fuck they're talkin about.

tranza 01-08-2009 12:48 PM

I've personally never used Vista. And I really think there's a VERY low market penetration of Vista down here in Brazil.

:2 cents:

Man I built a brand new PC with pretty much top of the line stuff maybe a year ago at most. I tried to use vista on it and had nothing but trouble. I ended up going back to XP.

d-null 01-08-2009 01:27 PM

the smart thing was to continue with XP, skip right over Vista, and wait for a few months after windows7 gets released

tigermtb 01-08-2009 01:27 PM

Vista looks pretty, but I've had nothing but annoying issues with it, most notably with networking. I refuse to switch from XP until I have to on my other systems.

tony286 01-08-2009 01:28 PM

the screwed up thing is to use the beta you have to vista sp1 installed on the system. yuck

DamageX 01-08-2009 01:50 PM

Ballmer puts used car salesmen to shame.

E.Kant 01-08-2009 02:07 PM

Vista sucked anyway :)

Nothing wrong with Vista. XP sold better than Vista did, so MS thinks it's from all the bad press and rumors. Truth is XP is enough for most people and they don't need to upgrade. So I seriously doubt Win7 is going to sell like hotcakes, I predict Steve B. Throwing more chairs soon...

who 01-08-2009 02:11 PM

I turned off all the pretty shit in Vista and was left nothing but a slightly warped XP.

There's just no need for Vista. What a clusterfuck. It was originally supposed to use some whizbang new file system which would make it something special, but because they couldn't get that working properly they decided to just stick a bunch of bells on it and spend money on marketing rather than development. It's a complete joke.

ADL Colin 01-08-2009 02:16 PM

No problems with Vista. i like it.

Also have a Mac. I like that too.

Networking is its biggest failing imho. It's 41 flavors of man-ass.

Speaking of Vista, I saw Dell was offering XP with some of their pc's today but it was either 120 or 150 to 'upgrade' to XP. :1orglaugh

I'll stick to XP all day long. I have NO problems and don't need a bigger OS lagging me down even more.

I saw at Fry's that they offered an upgrade to XP for around $70 for the oem version (ie. no support, but the complete software is all there)

JustDaveXxx 01-08-2009 03:17 PM

Fuck Vista and windows. I left that shit 5 years ago for Mac. I had one problem in 5 years and my Mac was out of warranty and Mac fixed it for nothing. My job depends on my Macs working.

I have 3 of them and am way happy!

I was a die hard Pc guy for 15 years. Delt with problems all the time. Got good at fixing any and all pc problems for me and all of my friends. Was a full time Tech without the paycheck with PC.:2 cents:

FUCK PC!!!!

OG LennyT 01-08-2009 03:26 PM

All my computers at the house run XP.. heard nothing but bad mojo regarding Vista

Vista works great for me over 3 months .. no problems at all ..
only 1-2 programs which are 5-6 years old .. that was the only problems with it
don't know why people hate it

HomerSimpson 01-08-2009 05:15 PM

since vista was pure shit they decided to go step back and work on XP-like OS...
so basically that's new version of xp with some enhanced options...

KRosh 01-08-2009 08:00 PM

I have to say out of the box, vista is very annoying. With a bit of tweaking I can learn to live with it if I had to but lucky for me I don't have to :1orglaugh

Rochard 01-08-2009 08:18 PM

I'm running Vista now on one PC and two laptops. No problems.

I bought a laptop with vista, 4 days into my trip it slowed down to nothing (after installing basic apps ...icq, aim, dreamweaver etc)

I never had such problems with XP, nor has anyone else i know, ever.

However i know plenty of people with Vista issues. So case closed, XP should stay, vista should go....& we should all wait for windows 7.

uno 01-08-2009 08:30 PM

I hope windows 7 is better. Any time I've used vista I've hated it. Give me something barebones and fast and let me pick which whistles I want. (yes, I know linux, ubuntu, whatever other *nix)

Iron Fist 01-08-2009 09:18 PM

WFW 3.11 was the shit!

S P A N N O W 01-08-2009 09:19 PM

I've got 1 notebook running Vista, another notebook and workstation on XP and a mac workstation - no networking problems at all.

Specifically with Vista I've got no complaints with anything, it's working fine for me.

candyflip 01-08-2009 09:44 PM

I have no issues with Vista, but I loved BOB too.

I couldn't agree more. I never have had a lagging / faulted / bluescreen with my MODIFIED Vista copy.

goldfish 01-08-2009 11:36 PM

I have Vista and have had no issues what so ever, I do everything on it, design, programming, vid editing etc. Believe it or not I am on a gateway laptop. I know Gateway, you have to be kidding. No I'm not. I bought it because Gateway built their systems around Vista, unlike most comp manufacturers that built their systems and then loaded Vista and worked out the bugs.

ExLust 01-08-2009 11:42 PM

Never use vista yet.
