Having trouble setting up n opt-in email form on my site
 

Does anyone know how to set these up? When I go to install my mail.cgi file I get a 550 Permission denied error. Does anyone know why?

Also, does anyone know any other free scripts where I can set up an opt-in? (I want the address to go to a file, not just emails goign to my mail box).

Make sure you set CHMOD correctly. I use WS-FTP Lite [free version] you just right click the file you just uploaded and you click CHMOD. Check your instructions sheet to see the right CHMOD setting. Also, upload your cgi files in ASCII mode.

I can't even upload any files though to my user/bin (so I can't even chmod them).

Also, when I try CHMODing folders or files that are already there, I get this message:

! Chmod failed. it may not be supported on the remote site.

Are you on a freehost? If you are, you may want to try paid hosting--you get cgi access and ftp access so you can upload files.
If you already are on paid hosting, you need to email your host's support email--they need to give you access.
