9-year old saves girl from pitbull

Quote:

"I'd get on my back and do a choke hold," he said.

It's the same thing Drew did last week when he saved a 12-year-old girl from being mauled by a pit bull. Using a tactic he learned in class, he put the attacking dog in a chokehold and held it for at least 20 minutes until help arrived.

Why always picking on pit bulls!? It's the owners not the breed! They're gentle and loving! It's just a media bias!

omg sarcasmorgasm.

Vicious_B 01-07-2009 10:28 AM

That was an amazing thing for that child to do.

20 minutes for help to arrive. Gotta love the police.

Pretty patient for a 9 year old to hold a passed out dog for 20 minutes. I can only imagine the adrenaline.

The coverage leaves me wondering how bad the girl's shoulder bite is. My niece was attacked by an Akita and she needed 13 hours of reconstructive surgery. It was kind of a big deal.

Akitas are gnarly.

First off shut up about Ninjitsu because that's entirely something else and pretty useless.

I said there's nothing _you_ can do one on one against a dog. You won't be able to get a rear naked choke on a dog that's facing you.

I also said you can choke a dog with the exact choke this kid used if you can get up behind it, like if it's engaged biting something else. It's the exact choke I use to break up my dogs when they've fought in the past.

So again, I'm still 100% correct.

a brave little kid.

No man, really. I mean it can happen, yes. Sometimes people get a series of good shots in the right place of a dog's skull. Sometimes the dog can't drag you to the ground. So I'm not saying it's impossible. It's just very unlikely.

Dogs just move too fast and if they are able to drag you to the ground, you're pretty much done for. All you can do is cover up and pray at that point.

I have a friend who trains police dogs in Texas, his family has for many years. They train both German and Belgium Sheperrds. A Belgium Shepherd is like a German Shepherd, but smaller. They're around 70-80 pounds. I've "fought" with them before, and let me tell you, I would want no part of any of those dogs. 150 pound Rottweiler? Forget about it. That's run and fucking hide terrority.

Now of course if you get attacked and there's no where to go, fight back. Stay on your feet, protect your throat at all costs. Try shots for the throat, eyes, tip of the nose and hope. It's just the odds are very much against you.

John-ACWM 01-07-2009 01:11 PM

Pretty heart touching. Brave thing, kiddo! :thumbsup

WarChild 01-07-2009 01:17 PM

What strikes me the most is the intelligence of the kid to realize that kicking at the dog is not the answer. Well done and pretty brave for 9 years old. Knowledge really _IS_ power.

Except for the Ninjitsu part you are exactly right. The only way he got that dog was because it was already on the girl. and He got REALLY fucking lucky..

The Hold he had on the dog is also known as a " Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint " and if you ever do something like that you BETTER remember those words because its the ONLY thing that will save your ass in court. I dont know that it works the same on a dog as it does on a human and that may be the reason he had to hold on for 20 min.

And to the people blaming the cops dont blame the cops for taking 20 min. They may have arrived in 3 but what would you like them to do. Pull out of their Bat Belt something to control the dog??? Not going to happen, and they are not going to risk letting go of the dog. As long as the kid had a good hand on him and said he could hold him, changing the positions and situation could have been bad for the kid.

I am a deep purple belt(6 years) in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The kid demonstrated the essence Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, beating and over coming a dangerous opponent through the use of technique. It takes years for most practitioners of BJJ to come to this realization.

Plus 1 for BJJ
