Man wins $135k told ticket was a mistake!

A Toronto-area man who won $135,000 on four scratch-off lottery tickets has been told they were printing mistakes, and he won't be given the prizes.

They just had on TV where an old man went to the store to buy him and his wife a lottery ticket. On the way back home he had a heart attack and died.

The ticket turned out to be a ten million dollar winner :upsidedow

Apparently 1000 tickets have the error... they should be recalling those tickets, they're scratch tickets so they should be able to find where they are by asking retailers to scan the specific lottery game in question.

So recall the rest, have the retailers pull em ASAP and get em out of circulation, but give the dude his money, imo.

Looks like Canada is a bad place to win.

Spunky 01-06-2009 05:00 PM

Damn,I would be pissed off, wonder if a class action would solve anything

abadfish 01-06-2009 07:04 PM

They should definitely honor the tickets.

Deej 01-06-2009 07:53 PM

I want to know how they determined they were misprints?

did they know about this before the winner popped? or "upon inspection" have they concluded that it be a mistake?

???

Actually it's a great place to win, you are not taxed on the winnings right off the top like in the US. So this poor MOFO is out the full 135K.

d-null 01-06-2009 08:02 PM

so basically they are saying it is all rigged, that the printing on the tickets means nothing and it is predetermined whether a ticket wins or not, which we already knew, but they don't advertise them that way

the instructions on the ticket say that if you match 3 or whatever that it is a winner, they should have to pay up in full, regardless of printing error, they set the rules of the game in the first place

they can put a freeze on selling any more of those tickets, but the ones they already sold should be considered a contract with the purchaser, regardless of what clause they want to back out on :2 cents:

bobby666 01-07-2009 05:51 AM

shit happens sometimes

WiredGuy 01-07-2009 07:40 AM

Of course he'll try his luck in court, this was a mere publicity stunt to drive up an out of court settlement. The lottery commission here has spent millions to clean up their image after a few scandals occurred with shady retailers keeping winning tickets that this is the last thing they want. He'll get a settlement out of it.

PornMD 01-07-2009 10:36 AM

Wow...lotteries heard about Madoff's $50 bil ponzi scheme and thought ".....you mean we can just not pay people?! Awesome!"

Glitch or not, they SHOULD give the guy SOMETHING for going through the trouble. Taking away something good from someone can be as bad or worse than doing something bad to them.

ztik 01-07-2009 10:42 AM

Too bad he wasn't in the US. He could sue and probably win atleast the money but probably more.

pornguy 01-07-2009 10:46 AM

Sounds about like the canuks... :)

Hahahahahahahahahhahahha j/k
