Viacom has been aggressive in its pricing, Baine said. Although far from the stratospheric levels of sports channel ESPN, which receives nearly $4 per cable subscriber per month, MTV collects about 32 cents a month per cable subscriber, Baine said. Nickelodeon fetches about 45 cents a month per subscriber.
Wow, ESPN is banking... and all they do is show Sportscenter re-runs all day.

Shades of the ibill/first data fiasco... why's it a last minute thing?

fallenmuffin 12-31-2008 01:20 AM

Hulu is all you need.

Voodoo 12-31-2008 01:24 AM

All I need is Sci-Fi and ShowTime. So it's all good.

The internet will eventually kill any kind of Pay tv.
The only reason its lasted this long is that cable had enuf vision to get in as a provider.

munki 12-31-2008 01:27 AM

That's pretty funny actually...

I wonder how TWC is feeling about having their feeds jacked...

hypedough 12-31-2008 01:28 AM

Fuck Time Warner. They monopolized the cable game in the Los Angeles County. Up until 4 months ago there were no options for people in apartments like mine. Now that AT&T U-verse is around, holy shit their internet is fast and you can record 6 shows at once :thumbsup Fuck Time Warner, one month you'll pay $120, the next it'll be $160. I'd call to remove some packages, wind up being contracted to a more expensive custom package they made up for me. A rep on the phone even admitted they were overcharging me and opened a new account so I can get a few deals before bouncing from TW.

NY Jester 12-31-2008 01:42 AM

Good maybe we'll get the NFL network then :)

pamon 12-31-2008 03:05 AM

use TW for cable only. went to Directv a year ago and never will use cable again. 15MBS download for cable is good for me on cable unless someone else can match that with price/speed.

If they aren't willing to pay an extra 30 cents for over a dozen channels they aren't paying 70 cents per sub for NFL Network. TW is only willing to carry NFL Network if they can put it on a sports tier in which you have to pay extra for. Of course if their sprots tier was worth the $5, $10 or whatever they charge you'd already paying for it and it wouldn't matter.

Why do you think all the cable ISP's are now either capping bandwidth or have plans to do so within months, with dsl providers right around the corner announcing the same thing?

HorseShit 12-31-2008 06:55 AM

+1 .... I only watch CNBC and MSNBC ... and occasionally DISC and NatGeo .. it'd be a shame to loose Stewart and Colbert but that just means I have 1 more hour available to work... besides ... their eps are online ...

EscortBiz 01-01-2009 08:43 AM

this was very obvious http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/090101/viaco...ner_cable.html
