Thank You For Not Smoking

<rant>
I hate these signs - not because they are there to prevent smoking in certain places - but because they're fucktardly worded.

Thank you for not smoking doesn't mean no smoking.

If you don't want me to smoke somewhere - just fucking say so. Because you've thanked me for not doing something means that now I have to not do that thing only logically follows that if you also thank me for doing something in advance - I must now do it.

If that flow of logic makes sense to you then I say this to any and all of you....

Thank you for taking down your banners and links and redirecting all of your traffic to my sites.

</rant>

Holy crap! It sounds like you weren't held much growing up! Those are some serious blanket statements. Did you lose your blankie? Favorite squeeze toy perhaps? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I have to agree with the GP post and I smoke. People, as a whole, suck in regard to personal behavior and how they don't appreciate or care how it affects other individuals in the surrounding group.

If people want to smoke, have at it. BUT... do it in your own car, in your own house or somewhere outside where there are no people. Don't smoke with your kids in the car though, that should be child abuse being that 2nd hand smoke is dangerous. That says to me, you don't care about your child and by your actions, it is clear you do not. You care about your habit more than your kid.

Smoking outside of a place right outside the door with 10 other smokers defeats the point. It blows right back in and then you all walk in stinking like shit.

Smoke all you want, I don't care. Just PLEASE don't do it around non-smokers, that is all I ask. And smokers, you do smell really bad to a non-smoker. You can smell it on you no matter how long ago you smoked last. Its in your hair, on your clothes and when you sweat that smell comes out and we can smell it. Much like a drunk who drinks all day and night, you can smell it on him too.

Think of it this way. You, the smoker, would not like it if random people just ran up and farted a nice big wet fart in your face, your wifes face and into you kids face. And farts are not even lethal, so imagine they were and we just cut loose on you every time we had gas or we burped in your face every time we had to belch. You wouldn't like it. In fact, you would probably want to knock my lights out for doing it.

With that said, I also understand its a drug and it's very hard to quit. Almost impossible. So I do feel for you guys. You're fucked more or less once you start. Very few can quit and never smoke again. I can't believe it's legal.

This is what you have to love about the war on smoking...it has created a group which one can publicly, loudly and proudly tag with negative stereotypes...with no qualms or repercussions whatsover.

You (properly) can no longer say "blacks don't listen"..."women all think"..."Mexicans have no fucking respect..." etc. --- without either being labelled as a racist/sexist/or whatever else.

So, to meet your need to feel superior to a group of people, we proudly present: THE DAMN SMOKERS! Feel free to lump them all into one group and stereotype all of them --- don't feel the need to justify yourself in claiming that every member of a group is "bad" for a particular reason --- just castigate ALL of them. You don't like smoking --- so it's perfectly fine for you to describe an entire group of people, who all just happen to smoke, with any attack you'd like. It's your right as an American to unreasoningly hate groups of people; thank god there's a group left you can publicly and loudly hate.

(I don't expect you to appreciate or even understand this post - but I won't categorize you into any group of people who wouldn't appreciate or understand the post. That would be unfair.)

Mike, I do understand what you are saying, but being white, black, tall, dumb, Mexican, cross-eyed or what have you is not dangerous to OTHERS health. That is the issue at hand.

You have a right to smoke. I think you should be allowed to smoke. That is not the issue. The issue is, 1) the smell. 2) the health risks involved to non-smokers.

The day someone creates an odorless cigarette that does not harm others with second hand smoke, then I welcome you to my table. Until then, it's a health hazard.

You would not want me walking into your house with some toxic chemical waste dripping from my clothes. You would not want me sitting at your table while I'm sneezing my head off with the flu or a nasty cold, germs flying everywhere. Of course you wouldn't. And these do not even smell and the cold and flu will not kill you if you catch it, while 2nd hand smoke CAN cause cancer.

The bottom line is, if I can get a ticket for jay walking, you can bet your ass "they" are going to tell you where you can and can not smoke. Just be thankful you can still smoke in your own home and car.

sandman! 12-30-2008 11:12 PM

Fuck all the non smokers that think smokers give a shit what gives you the right to go on private property and tell people they cant smoke ?

Yea fuck all the smoking bans, a bar is not public property fuck you all.

I wonder why all the non smokers never opened up no smoking bars why you had to go fuck it for up for us.

signs, signs ... everywhere no smoking signs

I smoke. I smoke too much. I'm not proud of it.

What is not understood, especially by a person who has never smoked is how hard it is to quit. I know, i know - all these people quit, you can to, my uncle so and so quit, he smoked for 78 years, and just quit. Quiting smoking is a bitch, its said to be as bad if not worse then seriously hard drug addictions. Take this pill (great idea), try this patch, chew this gum ... blah blah. If you never smoked seriously zip it.

The propaganda of second hand smoke being linked to cancer is not scientific fact, its theory. <-- you think I'm wrong, prove it from a real medical/scientific source with case studies, full disclosure of all variable not funded by anti-smoking campaigns, and non-bias. Googling its prob. not gonna work.

Want to see something funny, go to your nearest ER, locate the exit, and the closest smoking area and dont forget to say HI to all the doctors and nurses that are smoking.

Smokers often group together (we are funny like that). There is always this one non smoker that huddles into the group - and then complains. What is that?

Im not proud i smoke, i was an idiot for ever trying - most moronic thing i ever did. Most true smokers feel this way - some will tell you i love cigs, yeah right. Truth is laugh or cry, its not like its easy to quit. I have tried at least 10 times, each time, gain weight, piss everyone off with mean aggressive behavior, its crazy ...

Non-smokers ... smoking pot, or just a drag at a bar with some friends - that makes you a hypocrite.

Cut us some slack - you already made it so hard to smoke anywhere. I know your proud, i have kids - and I agree ... smoking is bad. But if i want to kill myself slowly, and you cant prove Im killing you, even with science ... seriously, back off!

Actually, I could make a pretty compelling argument that being dumb is a lot more dangerous to other's health than second hand smoke :1orglaugh

But I wasn't going after you, DWB - I understand there are people who don't like smoke - and even some who are allergic to it. (As skrinkladoo stated, the whole second hand smoke issue is not as cut and dried as the anti-smoking forces would have you believe - google for the voluminous World Health Organization study that *disproved" the argument about second hand smoke and cancer, which was deep-sixed at the insistence of the US - but I'm not here to argue that point.)

My point is that I don't condemn, for example, all people who own guns - even though someone with a gun could be *very* hazardous to my health. I know people who I like very much who own guns, and people who I think are morons who own guns. But I wouldn't dream of saying "gun owners all think".....or "gun owners have no fuckign (sic) respect". Some people like Fucksakes, though, just think they can categorize all smokers and condemn them as a group, because they don't like smoke --- and because they have a need to rip on *some* group, and smokers are now considered "fair game" as a group.

Second hand smoke doesn't kill.

Smokers going through nicotine withdrawal do.

That was recently made illegal in Victoria, Australia. If you smoke with a child under 16 in the car then you get fined something like $250.

There was a movie that came out in 1997 called Love andDeath on Long Island. It had the following line:

Taxi Driver: The sign says "no smoking."
Giles De'Ath: No, the sign says "thank you for not smoking." As I am smoking, I don't expect to be thanked.

honestly, its not a bad thing in restaurant's and bars. most places have poor ventilation and smoke just staggers in the air. I can see the rules of smoking outside a building. I hate coming out of somewhere and have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get through... this, coming from someone who smokes non the less

I remember when the no smoking sign in a plane was a bad thing. If you could smoke everything was good. Once that no smoking sign pop on the ride was going to get rough.

Exactly! I wasn't arguing the merits of smoking - only the wording of the sign itself!

you gotta start giving a fuck about the big picture and not about the particular ban... governments NEVER lift a fucking ban, they just ban more n more.... it doesnt matter what the FUCK they ban, just be against it.. Even if you agree with the fucking ban, dont go with the goverment. Alot of peeps dont understand this.

That's because 99.9% try to do it totally wrong. If you give up the cigs cold turkey (even if using a patch, gum, etc.) you are most likely doomed. You need to ween yourself off the habit and you will have no problem quitting nor will you suffer the consequences that are usually associated with doing so (weight gain, irritability, etc.).

I've never met anyone who started off by smoking a pack or two a day right out of the gate. You most likely began by smoking one or two cigs a day and gradually smoked more as time went on. So why try to just cut it off all at once?

If you really want to quit smoking this year, this is what you need to do. Let's say you smoke a pack a day...what is that 20 cigarettes? If so then you ration them out and make sure you smoke no more than 19 per day for a week. The next week you go with no more than 18 per day. See where this is going?

By gradually breaking the habit and weening yourself off of the nicotine you CAN quit without ANY of those nasty aforementioned side effects that come with going cold turkey and you can do so without using patches, pills or gum. Sure it may take 6 months or so to be totally free of the cigarettes but I guarantee it will be easy as pie and much better for your sanity.

:thumbsup

I've been smoking for 20+ yrs. I want to quit so bad and have for so long! I finally got the doctor to prescribe me Chantix and started taking it this past week. I just couldn't do it on my own. I need help. I really want to be rid of this addiction for good. It's been so hard to stop. You've all have heard the story 100 times before, I'm sure. The fact is that I fucking hate smoking ... I hate the smell ... I hate the taste ... I hate that I've done whatever damage I've done to my health since I've started and that whatever the long term affects will be could end with cancer and death ... and I hate the resulting impact it will possibly have on my wife and kids, god forbid - if it does end that way for me.

I never smoked in my house or in front of my kids. I've always tried to be conscious and considerate when around other people (smokers or non-smokers) to NOT blow smoke in their direction. Always ask 'do you mind?' when wanting to light up around other people. If they minded, I wouldn't light up or I'd walk away and smoke elsewhere. However, I'm positive I've invaded people's space on many occasions over the years.

Smoking is a fucking nasty habit/addiction and smokers, for the most part - are rude and inconsiderate about imposing their fucking nasty habit/addiction on other people. IT IS THAT CUT AND DRY FOR THE MOST PART!

Anyone that's a smoker that argues they should be able to smoke in a bar or restaurant or plane or wherever they want for any reason is just being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole. The argument that there's no scientific proof that 2nd hand smoke causes cancer doesn't even matter. It's fucking disgusting and it stinks and you're forcing people to breathe that shit ... and they should have no choice because you're a fucking addict!?!? That's just fucking wrong and selfish!

MikeSmoke - I have nothing against you brother, but you're grasping at straws. Your arguments about condemning smokers as a group and comparing them to gun owners and that people are just looking for a group to slam is almost humorous. You know smoking is bad for you personally and somewhere on a logical level you know that smokers as a group "inflict" their addiction on people without caring or thinking *for the most part* that people don't want to have that shit imposed on them. IMHO, you know it's wrong - but somehow you feel the need to be ok with it because you smoke :winkwink:

DirtyWhiteBoy - everything you've said is 100% on point, man. 100%! (EDIT - except the snowballing comments you made in KB's thread yesterday ... that was all just wrong LOL)

I'm down to around half a pack a day, but i plan on going cold turkey when this new pack is done. I've done it before. Furthest I got was 6 mo then decided to take a month long trip to europe on 2 days notice with a hungarian playboy model and that pretty much killed it.

It's like illegal to not smoke in europe.
