Just requesting a little advice.

Hello all.
I just wanted to to get some advice from a few of you here. Ive been browsing this site again recently but joined in 2003. I am an oilfield worker who was recently laid off and given the current oil prices it doesnt seem a return to my field will be happening any time soon.
Now, I just wanted to say that i am by no means broke or in danger of losing anything any time soon so sympathy is not what i am here for.
I am simply wondering if there is any room for any "newbs" in this industry or do many of you feel the industry to be too watered down to allow a decent return on any investments that i may be willing to make?
I do have limited knowledge in web design, although outdated, but i am a quick learner and feel as though with enough time devoted to any certain project that i could be successful in time. Successful in making a decent product and not making money of course if there is no money to be had.
I would be willing to devote up to a few thousand dollars to a new project if i feel that within time i can see a decent return.
I guess what i am trying to ask is whether or not it would be worth it for me to register up to 10-15 domain names to create TGP sites just to get started. Normally, i would just jump in head first and ask questions later but given the current state of things i figured a little advice from some well respected industry professionals could be beneficial. Any advice will be appreciated! Thank you in advance for your time!

Where did you work on oil fields? Fort Mc by any chance?

Ive worked all over the US.
Mainly the Gulf of Mexico, the Los Angeles basin area and Bakersfield, Ca. Im not sure if im familiar with Fort Mc. Where exactly is that?

This is probably the most intelligent post I've seen in a long time.

I think there is still room, although some might say that "tube" sites and blogs are the way to go over TGPs. Me, I like TGPs.

Instead of registering 15+ domains and trying to get all of them off the ground, I would suggest focusing your energies on one site, whether it be a TGP, tube, or blog. That way you can focus on quality design, quality content, setting up some good trades, and building your PR. That's my :2 cents:

Best of luck!

Thank you for your advice! I do have a tendency to overwhelm myself so ill try to limit myself to one project at a time.

I would focus on niches, since the tube sites tend to not have loads of it, if any. :thumbsup

I think there is room. What I would suggest is to focus on a few niches that arent over saturated. If you want to chat, drop me a lien on ICQ...

Combine these ideas, and focus on getting your own traffic and not purchasing it. Hit me on ICQ and we can talk about some of the traffic ideas that I use.

Thank you for the responses! I really appreciate it. As soon as i get this project started i will hit y'all up on ICQ. I will probably also be paying for a few different services such as hosting and design. If y'all have any one that youd like to recommend i will look over their products. Thanks again!

Interesting thread.. I would make a quality blog, with unique self written posts and an original niche. I would use part of the money to buy quality hardlinks and some start up traffic to feed my trades.

Good luck!
