Question for Content Shooters

My husband bought me a Nikon D80 for XMAS. What are the advantages and disadvantages of JPG, RAW/JPG and RAW?. I want to be able to print and blow up the pics.

My Avatar was taken with my new camera...:)

you have more control over raw, so there is more room to correct if you have an error in the shot.

I use a Nikon D3 but what you’re looking for is on page 34 of the Nikon D80 User’s Manual.

The benefits of RAW are many, the disadvantages are one. You need more or bigger chips.

That's it, we shoot everything in RAW and Jpeg and then store the RAW. It prints better. The Jpeg is good up to A5, over the RAW takes over.

Raw = amazing ability to rescue fucked up exposures and color balance and gives you the cleanest image to retouch from. Also shooting fewer images per card lessens the chance of losing a complete day of shooting when your card goes tits up or your assistant accidently erases it.

JPG = small file size, huge number of images on a card
