Anyone use Dragon Naturally Speaking?

I was thinking about giving voice to text software a try for blog posts and gallery descriptions and so on. Has anyone given it a try before? Software like Dragons Naturally Speaking?

If so does it work ok?

I'd be interested in that myself...

Yes... my opinion is that if you don't "need" to use the software, it will only drive you crazy. Get the $100 version for a test drive if you wish.

typing is faster than talking/correcting :2 cents:

Yea that kinda sucks.. I'd like to not have to type as much because I don't want to end up with carpal tunnel because I'm at my PC all day.

It is the "best" on the market but it is what it is. I was trying to incorporate it into some accessibility software I wrote for my girlfriend's mother who is blind. But it was much simpler for the both of us to just use hot keys.

i heard the pro version is the one that works best but its $900.

damn I saw the one for $200 and thought that was expensive.. lol

I have it .... but after 2 solid months of patiently training the software to recognize what I am saying (no I don't have a crazy accent .. lol) ... the thing was still giving me errors and in more than one occasion certain words were changed which gave a whole 'nada' meaning to what I was writing... I got pissed and now I outsource everything that has to do with writing...

I am thinking about outsourcing my GFY posts too ...lol.. :)

So yeah, give it a go but if you are one of those people who speaks fast and doesn't vocalize words then.... ur better off paying someone to write for u...

..just my 2 cents..

qxm 12-27-2008 11:03 PM

btw... if u have vista (pro) then u already have a voice recognition software.... .u might wanna give it a spin....

TarPy 12-27-2008 11:11 PM

a disabled friend of mine uses it, and it's fucking GREAT...

but you really do have to TRAIN it, when it gets it wrong you have to use the verbal commands to correct rather than erasing and trying to say it more clearly. But if you can get past the learning curve you can fucking fly with that thing.

I have been thinking of using something like this as well for long writings I'm working on now. I can't help you, I don't know about dragon. But wanted to add the thought of open source ones. Are there any available that are good? I never looked into the technology because I was happy typing.

yes that is said that is it still not perfect

Antonio 12-28-2008 12:33 AM

you have one built-in in Windows XP which is as good as Dragon and by "as good" I mean it'll probably drive you to a suicide, the only difference I spotted was that Dragon eats like 100 times more of your computer resources
