SF Giants Sign the Big Unit

The San Francisco Giants signed 45-year old Randy Johnson to a one year $8 million contract.

In doing so, the Giants are the first team since the 2002 Braves to have three Cy Young winners on their roster (in addition to Johnson, who has won five Cy Young awards, Tim Lincecum won the trophy kast year, and Barry Zito won in 2002).

In his 20-year career, Johnson has set several records and amassed some very impressive stats. He stands only 5 games away from his 300th career win.

Coming off of two off-season surgeries, it remains to be seen what he will produce on the mound, but it is pretty certain that the 6'10' Bay Area native will put some butts in the bleachers... :thumbsup

I am sure it is just so he can work with the younger pitchers?

I'd be surprised if he even starts 12 games.

that's cool but i dunno about a dude with back problems playing in a cold and rainy city...i say this as a die hard giants and randy johnson fan...seems like no matter how good they are when pitchers come to frisco they go downhill and he was already going downhill...that said i hope for the best...and look forward to seeing him get his 300th win, but that's pretty much why they signed him....

I'm guessing he still has some pitches in him. He started 30 games last year, posting a so-so record of 11-10.

I'm most concerned about his ERA, since the Giants don't have the batting power that they once did. Year after year, the Giants either have pitching or hitting, but rarely both.

Oh well...Go Giants!!!
