My first Christmas eve alone in 36 years
 

Who else might be spending Christmas alone?

Given my situation, one might think I'd be surrounded by support, etc etc but nope. I just said goodbye to my daughter so she could be with her dad tonight. I'm supposed to go back home tomorrow to be with my folks and bring her back with me. But the friggin roads are sheets of ice and I'm out in the mountains. It doesn't look like my car is moving.

Anyone got ideas on what to do before I go stir crazy? I don't have cable but I thought about getting netflix or some shit while I guzzle all the wine I can.

Who else will be alone this year? Let's see hands!

I am alone unless you count my dog and the trickle of support tickets.

As much of an asshole as I act on the board, my heart goes out to you. If you were anywhere near me, rest assured, you'd have a place to hang out - with a grumpy old fart/nerd.

Netflix takes a little while; I always keep DVDs for background noise. I usually check out 'dealmein', a site run by a guy I know, and pick up $5/$6 DVDs just for that occasion.

Just me and the doggy this year. :( Maybe we should do a group skype call tonight or tomorrow for anyone that isn't going to be with family this year.

Right on... so what are your plans for tonight? Just kick it just like any other day?

I've spent quite a few christmas eves alone... It's relaxing, I usually watch tv and sip something expensive. Nice to chill before the storm that is christmas day.

Are you fucking kidding me? Head bangin while I was a pile of grief and nightmare to that 80s band while they were playin sweet child of mine.... That was one of the best times I had in my life I swear. I used to think you were a dick (pardon the honesty) till I met you in person. I want to definitely hang out again when we can see each other again. I love dave and he really backs you up and believes in you and I can attest for the same.

Sitting here, coding... Luckly my girlfriends bother wanted to stay the night, otherwise it would just be me and my pitbull.

I think I may go play some Halo 3 with him, he's been down in the basement on the other computer while I slept/coded.

Girlfriend is in Michigan with her dad, won't be back until Monday, I miss her dearly, and it kind of sucks being alone on Christmas :S

It could be worse. I'm also alone, but I still got work to do :)

we went to my aunts house it was nice but its my first xmas without my dad I miss him so much.

My best advice is to plan ahead...

Make plans to have dinner or hang out with other friends, go out to/rent a movie, bundle up and read a good book, or volunteer at a Food Kitchen (I'm not alone, however I do this every Thanksgiving and Xmas to help others and remind myself about all I have to be thankful for).

The main thing is to remember that you are loved (by your daughter and others), and have many friends (in and outside the biz) who respect you and appreciate your friendship.

Pretty much alone here.

I will be getting a siamese shortly to help keep me company in this big house. But I may get over to the sister's for some dinner. But beyond that, it's just me and work.

Normally I do not mind it, but this year it bothers me a bit more. I could have went with the gf to her family's, but I passed on dat shit. So just me, alone, in the dark with my hand, and picture of da Zing.

It's funny since this thread, I've heard "child of mind" 3 times and my lightbulds are going bonders. I also swore I smelled pancakes, the one thing Taylor would cook for me... Things that make you wonder if you are really alone or not.

I have spent almost every xmas alone since I was 18... It's just like any other day. Christmas is nothing special, it is only special to people who care to think its special. I eat, work, watch tv, and sleep, like any other day.
Why should it be different just because it's Christmas? Even better if I don't have to exchange presents and celebrate. Less stress and more $ for me.

The shit sucks, this is my 3rd year Christmas without my dad, and I agree, I miss him more than anything also.

thought i'd be alone tonight, but my landlord/roommate came home early from a family dinner and is playing playstation in the background...

family's back home in Canada and I'm in Panama this year...

This is actually the first xmas I spend with my parents in about 3 years. I spent the first 2 hours of the day shovelling, followed by 5 hours cooking a feast for them and after the typical bitter fighting, they went to bed. Being alone isn't so bad ;)

I feel where you're coming from and its a shitty place. I actually wish I spent christmas alone.

I'm alone until tomorrow when I'll be driving across town to go stay at my folks for a few days. To beat the alones I play some banging tunes, I cook, have a feast, pour some wine or a few killer drinks, play some computer games, watch a few movies later, and lastly, finish wrapping any presents... which always get wrapped badly due to the amount of booze consumed.

I bought my folks tickets to spend X-mas here in LA but now they are stuck in Chicago due to the weather.

My mom has to work on Friday so it was only going to be a one day trip for her, now she may not be able to make it at all.

This kinda sucks.

And to make things worse, I am in a new place with no TV because my brand shiny new one was defective so I had to have a replacement sent which that probably won't get here until the new year.

Alone with TV during the holidays is bearable. Alone with no TV... eh, not so much.

I am alone tonight but I have gotten used to it and sort of like it. No one expects anything out of you tonight. No need to call or be called etc. It is truly alone time which is fine as long as it ends tomorrow hehe.

I hope it gets better for you. My younger sister died in 2001 and I still cry every holiday because I miss her. It does suck. Death sucks.
