Why do other webmasters get pissed when you dont tell them your sites or secrets?

I've had 2 other webmasters this week chat with me and ask me detailed information about my sites and how much money they're making.
I give basic information, and they do to on their sites, but then they want to know the urls so they can see my site and I say no and never give them. Then they get pissed at me!
"I wont tell anyone. Im not like that"
whatever dude. I dont know you beyond some icq messages. then they fly off the handle and leave.

Im just protecting my business. Ive had dozens of sites not make money, and only 2 or 3 that do make money. Why would I want to give it away and lose that?

Your site isn't anything special, it's not revolutionary, you're not doing anything the rest of us aren't, stop being so scared someone's gonna steal your TGP idea...

By keeping your sites to yourself, you're doing nothing but hurting your business, you're turning away someone who could quite possibly make you even more money...

qxm 12-23-2008 02:48 AM

lol... I fell ya m8... I find it that it is always best to not brag or even tell anyone that ur sites are making you money... last time I posted about a good conversion rate I had.. I got this unknown person on ICQ and what he wrote was literally:

Quote:

dumbassSite.com

that is my site...I want you to do that ratio with it
SO..he was kinda like sayin' here is my site .... make me money and I'll believe you... lol... as if I had any obligation whatsoever...

The bottom line is protect ur business, don't brag about what u have and forget about the rest... This IS business and no one is going to be stupid enough to give away information and knowledge that took time to obtain.

tranza 12-23-2008 03:52 AM

I don't trust in anyone, so, I don't tell anything... hehehe
Easy

commonsense 12-23-2008 05:28 AM

You're absolutely correct. Fuck anyone that tells you different.

Johnny G 12-23-2008 05:35 AM

I liked the idea of people visiting my sites. I thought that was what they were there for. Silly me. What was I thinking!

dynastoned 12-23-2008 06:00 AM

yeah i get these fucking posers on icq all the time. it's exactly how you explained it too. some of the assholes even have to nerve to ask if i can seo their site for free after giving them tips on how to better their se traffic. then they get pissed when i say no. idk i just don't turn my icq on anymore. problem solved.

I told someone about one of my sites a few years ago and he copied most of it and stole my business model. I guess that's a compliment in a way though....

I had someone "rip" one of my main free sites, design and all but they linked to my main galleries. Maybe they did it to help me out.. strange... but now that I look to see if that site is up.. it appears to be unresolvable now. Go figure. :1orglaugh

HorseShit 12-23-2008 06:50 AM

i always figure people are afraid to show their sites because they are ashamed of their abilities.

you mean people actually make money off this?

One guy that turned me onto Myspace 3 years back and started bugging out when I made 200k in one year. He stalked me for a few months. What a retard. He demanded I tell him what area i was working in, I didn't. Haha, and this guy was in the game for over 5 years!

BVF 12-23-2008 09:47 AM

Nothing wrong with not talking about your sites....However, don't ask everybody else detailed questions about THEIR business when they don't even know what in the fuck you do yourself....I've seen this happen before.

Hum. I hear you.

I once opened myself to my best friend (Well, I thought he was) about how I was doing my things... First thing, the guy opened gazillions of sites with my recipee (even copied some source code) pushing the very same sponsor.

My sales went down about 50% on the first month he launched his... :(

Now I JSTFU :winkwink:

I don't think you should ever give away the recipe, or let the competition watch you prepare it.

But you shouldn't be afraid to let another chef taste it.

Competition is healthy.
It keeps you on your toes.

If you have a revenue stream that can be compromised by showing another webmaster the url, you should probably be doing some innovating.

I make no money and should JSTFU myself :)

Barefootsies 12-23-2008 01:27 PM

I feel you hoss.

There is, and has been, enough posting that you can easily figure out my sites if you wanted to bad enough. So I am not going to post all my links just so some nobody things you are a BRO.

I do alright, and have no complaints. So there is really nothing for me to brag about. Nor do I really care what anyone else in the business thinks. Once THEY are the one's sending me the checks, instead of my members and customers, I will maybe think about it.

Until then... piss off.

Oh, and what others have said is true. Even more so in mainstream. If you are doing well, and your bragging leads the sheep to your site. You can bet cash money that they will either

1. Copy or clone your site almost verbatim including the meta tags.
2. Report you, if they can, on some of your affiliate or programs to get you nuked.

Mainstream is fucking ruthless compared to adult. $2 a day adsense blog whores will come after you with great delight.
