.INFO domain - true value ?

A client wants to buy an .INFO domain - .COM is taken...

... but I want to warn him cause .INFO domains have known problems. They are cheap so they often get abused - naturally seach engines may have special rules for domains of this kind. There is an article on the issue here: http://www.seobook.com/google-tempor...o-domain-names
From article it seems Google likes to index .INFO domains slower / rise PR slower compared to other domain TLDs.

Do you think it's just gossip or you have your own experiences?

I think if the content of the page is good, not "spammy", it can get indexed as well as any other domain. Especially if it's not porn-related, do you agree?

I have anaheimducks.info and when I was updating it daily, I was outranking ducks.nhl.com and anaheimducks.com in Google for top keywords. Don't believe the hype, .info don't incur special penalties. Though I am sure they may be subject to more bot scrutiny, especially if all your backlinks are all from other .info domains, etc...:2 cents:

well if it is your clients primary/only domain i wouldn't recommend it , just for the fact that consumer mindset is set to default to .com (plus it's ugly for a business) but, if they don't mind and are going for pure placement then i'd say .info does not hurt nor help and is the same according to google

I don't know if this has a good value, I preffer .COM, .NET, .ORG, something like this... :)

Rightly or wrongly, I see a .info domain and I think domain or site is cheap and on a shoestring set-up even before seeing it.

I disagree, if he promotes a domain TLD that is unusable, it may be loss of time and money.

entirely depends on what's the domain for.... but no serious companies have .info as their main adress.....

I like .info though since .info got me into adult 7 years ago heh, but unfortunately .info flopped compared to the expectations that there were for it before it launched

today .info is used by SE spammers and semi-shady companies, just like .biz
